Wells Fargo Propel World 40,000 Point Bonus Still Available In Branch

Some readers haven’t been able to get this offer in branch, others have had no trouble. So YMMV

Recently the Wells Fargo Propel World stop being available online (even our hidden links stopped working), I thought Wells Fargo had limited this card to only their Wells Fargo Advisor customers but reader bmanamex let me know that they recently went into a Wells Fargo branch and were asked if they wanted to sign up for a credit card. They said they were interested in the Propel World and the banker was able to pull up the 40,000 point offer.

If you don’t have this card, I would recommend getting it (just for the sign up bonus). You can read our full review of the card here, but here are the card basics:

  • Earn 40,000 bonus points with $3,000 in net purchases in the first 3 months.
  • Earn 3X points on Airlines, 2X on Hotels, and 1X on other net purchases.
  • Get up to $100 in reimbursements each year for qualifying incidental airline charges like airline lounges, baggage fees, and more
  • Annual fee of $175 is waived the first year

Points are worth 1¢ each so this bonus is worth $400 + the $100 in travel reimbursements. If you go into a Wells Fargo branch and are able to successfully get this offer, please let us know in the comments. I’ll likely add it to our best credit card bonus page due to the fact I don’t think this offer will last for ever.

  1. MAG says:

Anyone know? Are these the same points that the WF visa signature earns? Would it be possible to combine them to redeem them at 1.5 cents per point?

  2. Aaron says:

So, I see that WF also offers this CC product –> https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/visa-signature/

It offers a 1.5x multiplier for flight redemptions. The question I can’t seem to find an answer to on their site is whether one can combine bonus points from other WF cards. If so, pairing the above Visa Signature card w/ the 40K Propel could offer a rather lucrative $825 value in flight redemptions (55K points @ 1.5x), assuming my math isn’t off. Also not clear if there are limitations on ticket redemption (i.e., can you purchase 2 tickets together with points)?

Anyway, perhaps someone has some insight on all this.

    • Mark O says:

This is the first time I have seen a bonus on this one – Nice! People have been shut down for abusing the 5x though.

      • Aaron says:

Yeah, really not a bad bonus w/ the flight redemption multiplier. Throw in some judicious use of the 5x, and you could do quite nicely indeed:)

        • Cliff says:

Wells Fargo Rewards (Go Far Rewards) is awesome for flights. It’s a legit 33% off ANY flight (except for some budget air), i’ve used it numerous times when redeeming miles doesn’t make sense.

It’s even better now that they got rid of that $24 booking fee they previously had.

          • Ken says:

So you’d need both cards to get the good flight deals? i’ve heard WF is pretty conservative when it comes to extending credit and they really don’t like churners.

  3. Logan says:

Could purchasing a $100 southwest or delta gift card trigger this requirement?

  4. Young says:

Anyone know if the Amazon GC via MPX loophole still works for this credit in 2017?

  5. Mark O says:

Got one for me and the wife before the online links died! Just got the second bonus….$400 in free money is always great!

  6. edo says:

is this card eligible for cell phone protection benefits? couldn’t find the info on the page

  7. MAG says:

Next question about combining points. How do we understand the 16 month limitation on Wells Fargo cards? Is it only one bonus or one bonus per card type? Next, does anyone know if you can hold two of the same card? I’ll start researching, anyone chime in who has insight.

  8. mark says:

Is this churn-able? If not how long you to wait before re-applying? I just closed my WF rewards last month.

  9. captainsave says:

Does the incidental fee go by calender year or account year?

  10. raj says:

Points are worth 1.75c each, got a letter in mail lat month. I had a 5X gas, grocery, and drugstore card from 2 years ago.

  11. CJ says:

I stopped at a WF branch on my way home tonight to apply, but they couldn’t find the offer. It wasn’t just a standard public offer as the personal banker didn’t have any idea about it and didn’t have any promotional material other than just generic info about the various cards (she didn’t even have the 20k offer that’s available online).. She entered in my info to pull up any pre-approved offers, but the only thing that came up was just a generic offer for their cash wise card with no interest for 15 months – once again not even the $150 that’s offered online.
DP – I’ve had a joint checking account for at least 1.5 years and am an authorized user on my wife’s Signature card (which I abused quite heavily at the beginning of those 1.5 years).

  12. Roman S says:

Same story as CJ said, stopped by today at local WF branch and was told they only have 20k offer. I left my info to banker and he said that he’d call me whenever 40k offer becomes available.
    Sad.

  13. jf says:

excited to get wf checking open to get this card!

  14. Genise says:

Long time customer – went in yesterday 1/10/17 and without any hiccups in finding the offer was instantly approved for the Propel World with the sign-up bonus in writing.
Was pleasantly surprised by the short, smooth process (so far !).

    • jf says:

If i was just approved for the wells fargo checking account, and I have a branch near me, should I wait for my debit card to come, or just go to the branch now that I have an account and see if the offer is there?

      • Genise says:

My guess is that it will not hurt to check in branch, when you have your debit card in hand, if they have the offer available and if you’re eligible. They apparently can check when in your account and pull the offer up.
I was told that there was no knowledge if the offer would disappear soon; the guess was not.

    • Genise says:

Finally, my bonus points posted 2 months after required spending was met.

  15. sirtheta says:

DP: definitely still available with a 40k signup bonus and waived AF first year. I applied today.

  16. Edd says:

I applied last week for the 40k bonus

  17. Mike says:

My wife and I just got ours approved in branch today.

  18. Jake says:

I have a WF Checking account that I opened about a month ago and had no trouble getting this offer in-branch on Camden Avenue in San Jose, California – 40k points after $3k spend in 3 months, no annual fee for the first year. My application is pending but that’s typical for me so I’m not too worried about it. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they pulled TU.

  19. Mike says:

Just applied in branch and got insta-approved, 40k miles and 0AF first year (and 8 other cards opened in last 6 months).

Btw if you have a checking account with WF you are eligible for 10% bonus miles, of your normal monthly-earned miles (no gift cards)

  20. K F says:

I did the following to get offered for a 40k bonus card.

    – I have a Wells Fargo Checking Acct (already got my $250).
    – called the International number (925 area code) on the back of the debit card
    – pressed two for credit cards, I was transferred to a CSR for existing accounts, they transferred me to a personal banker
    – the personal banker wanted to ask questions about what cards I wanted, I brought up propel
    – applied over the phone

    PENDING

  21. Darv says:

You can call in and get the 40k offer. 800-642-4720 and ask for a banker to help with a new credit card application. Then ask for this card.

  22. Fork says:

Applied today in branch. Card (and 40K bonus) gets its own spread in their 2017 credit card booklet that was prominently littered about the branch. Didn’t get the vibe it’s going anywhere soon.

  23. AB says:

DP: Approved today by managers after underwriter initially declined my recon attempt. Looks like there somewhat senstive to the total amount of credit you have open and the amount of recent accounts/inquiries.

  24. Buffalo gal says:

Has anyone been approved for the World Propel card without having a WF bank account?

  25. Emil says:

This offer is still active if you call this number: 866-932-8736. That’s the sales number one of the reps gave me. I just applied and it went into pending.

  26. Dylan says:

Walked into the local WF branch on 4/9 and asked to apply for the Propel World card. Confirmed that it came with the 40K point bonus and my application was accepted in a matter of minutes. I have a checking account with WF and a FICO score in the excellent range. I met the $3000 spend requirement on 4/18. I’ll let you know when the bonus is posted.

  27. Albrecht says:

My local branch in GA had a brochure with all the credit cards offered, 40,000 points Propel was one of them listed. It took 5 minutes to apply and the disclosures were printed to given to me to read at my own pace later. Curiously enough, Cash Wise and others (currently offered with $200 / 20,000 points online) are there but with no such sign up bonuses).

  28. PJ says:

Went in branch today 5/3. CSR had never heard of this bonus, looked for it on his computer, couldn’t find it. I grabbed a brochure and showed him the 40,000 promotion. He then found it in his computer. I was approved within ten minutes. I have a checking acct. w/WF.

  29. Durga says:

Applied this card in Branch on 4/29. initially it went to pending status and on 5/1 this card was showing up in my online profile.

i have one question. as this card was Amex network card. does anyone knows MS will trigger signup bonus or not?

  30. Mike says:

The T&C state that gift cards won’t count toward bonus, but don’t know if in reality they do or not.

  31. Nick says:

DP on 5/23/17 for approval in-branch with 40k point sign-up bonus for someone with an existing WF checking account. Attempted via phone earlier that day and was offered the card, but without the sign-up bonus.

  32. eclipsor says:

Applied yesterday and went to pending with a pending $7,700 limit. Followed up today by calling and found out I got denied cause too many recent inquiries and new accounts. Tried reconning it and they said they’ll take a second look. The banker who helped me in branch also called to try to talk to them about it and it still came back as denied. He told me I should keep trying to call them which of course I plan on doing.

Any DPs or advice dealing with WF recon though? I only have 4 recent inquiries in the past 6 months and 5 new cards. I tried saying those are business cards and this will have a totally different purpose

    • lingua says:

curious as well since I want this card next and have 6 inq. in 6 months…DPs state they’re looking at last 6 months so perhaps I’ll wait a few and hope it is still around.

    • fathiss says:

I just applied via phone. I have a bank account with them. They took application over the phone and I got an immediate approval. I average about 10 new credit cards per year, so sounds similiar to you. They never questioned the amount of inquiries or cards approved in my report, and I did not freeze any credit reports.
They did tell me I would not be eligible for the 40,000 bonus if I have had this bonus within the last 16 months. Since I had this card before and closed it about 16 months ago I asked him to confirm it was from the bonus post date and the account close date does not come into play. He re-read the language and confirmed it is from the time the bonus is first given so I had nothing to worry about.

  33. MontyFC says:

[Cross posting from other page on this credit card]

My points finally posted today. 90 days after completing the minimum spend. Slowest among all the credit cards minimum spend that I have worked upon.

Will cash out the points and keep the card around for 2nd airline credit dip.

    • jf says:

Wise idea. Did you consider possibly downgrading to no af version, then at age of 16 months apply for cash wise visa so the points are worth 1.5x? Or is it not worth it? Did you use mpx for incidentals?

      • MontyFC says:

That’s an interesting option. However, when I look at cash wise cc, it earns 1.5% cashback on purchases, but on the redemption side it looks like 1:1 payout. So 40K points would still remain 40K points at cashout even w/ cash wise card.

        Is my understanding correct?

Yes, I used MPX for incidentals (amazon gc).

        • jf says:

I think that they both earn the same type of points but they combine and you do get 1.5x value… Possibly flights only but I’m thinking it’s cash.
