Wells Fargo Propel World 40,000 Point Bonus Still Available In Branch

Some readers haven’t been able to get this offer in branch, others have had no trouble. So YMMV

Recently the Wells Fargo Propel World stop being available online (even our hidden links stopped working), I thought Wells Fargo had limited this card to only their Wells Fargo Advisor customers but reader bmanamex let me know that they recently went into a Wells Fargo branch and were asked if they wanted to sign up for a credit card. They said they were interested in the Propel World and the banker was able to pull up the 40,000 point offer.

If you don’t have this card, I would recommend getting it (just for the sign up bonus). You can read our full review of the card here, but here are the card basics:

  • Earn 40,000 bonus points with $3,000 in net purchases in the first 3 months.
  • Earn 3X points on Airlines, 2X on Hotels, and 1X on other net purchases.
  • Get up to $100 in reimbursements each year for qualifying incidental airline charges like airline lounges, baggage fees, and more
  • Annual fee of $175 is waived the first year

Points are worth 1¢ each so this bonus is worth $400 + the $100 in travel reimbursements. If you go into a Wells Fargo branch and are able to successfully get this offer, please let us know in the comments. I’ll likely add it to our best credit card bonus page due to the fact I don’t think this offer will last for ever.

Anyone know? Are these the same points that the WF visa signature earns? Would it be possible to combine them to redeem them at 1.5 cents per point?

Aaron
Aaron

Ha! Just posted a similar Q below. Been wondering about this for a couple weeks. Combine Propel w/ the Sig and you’ve got a mighty nice flight redemption going.

Credit
Credit

Yes. They are

Aaron
Aaron

So, I see that WF also offers this CC product –> https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/visa-signature/

It offers a 1.5x multiplier for flight redemptions. The question I can’t seem to find an answer to on their site is whether one can combine bonus points from other WF cards. If so, pairing the above Visa Signature card w/ the 40K Propel could offer a rather lucrative $825 value in flight redemptions (55K points @ 1.5x), assuming my math isn’t off. Also not clear if there are limitations on ticket redemption (i.e., can you purchase 2 tickets together with points)?

Anyway, perhaps someone has some insight on all this.

This is the first time I have seen a bonus on this one – Nice! People have been shut down for abusing the 5x though.

Aaron
Aaron

Yeah, really not a bad bonus w/ the flight redemption multiplier. Throw in some judicious use of the 5x, and you could do quite nicely indeed:)

Cliff
Cliff

Wells Fargo Rewards (Go Far Rewards) is awesome for flights. It’s a legit 33% off ANY flight (except for some budget air), i’ve used it numerous times when redeeming miles doesn’t make sense.

It’s even better now that they got rid of that $24 booking fee they previously had.

Ken
Ken

So you’d need both cards to get the good flight deals? i’ve heard WF is pretty conservative when it comes to extending credit and they really don’t like churners.

Could purchasing a $100 southwest or delta gift card trigger this requirement?

Anyone know if the Amazon GC via MPX loophole still works for this credit in 2017?

Got one for me and the wife before the online links died! Just got the second bonus….$400 in free money is always great!

is this card eligible for cell phone protection benefits? couldn’t find the info on the page

Next question about combining points. How do we understand the 16 month limitation on Wells Fargo cards? Is it only one bonus or one bonus per card type? Next, does anyone know if you can hold two of the same card? I’ll start researching, anyone chime in who has insight.

Is this churn-able? If not how long you to wait before re-applying? I just closed my WF rewards last month.

Does the incidental fee go by calender year or account year?

No, it’s account year.

Points are worth 1.75c each, got a letter in mail lat month. I had a 5X gas, grocery, and drugstore card from 2 years ago.

I stopped at a WF branch on my way home tonight to apply, but they couldn’t find the offer. It wasn’t just a standard public offer as the personal banker didn’t have any idea about it and didn’t have any promotional material other than just generic info about the various cards (she didn’t even have the 20k offer that’s available online).. She entered in my info to pull up any pre-approved offers, but the only thing that came up was just a generic offer for their cash wise card with no interest for 15 months – once again not even the $150 that’s offered online.
DP – I’ve had a joint checking account for at least 1.5 years and am an authorized user on my wife’s Signature card (which I abused quite heavily at the beginning of those 1.5 years).

Roman S
Roman S

Same story as CJ said, stopped by today at local WF branch and was told they only have 20k offer. I left my info to banker and he said that he’d call me whenever 40k offer becomes available.
Sad.

Long time customer – went in yesterday 1/10/17 and without any hiccups in finding the offer was instantly approved for the Propel World with the sign-up bonus in writing.
Was pleasantly surprised by the short, smooth process (so far !).

If i was just approved for the wells fargo checking account, and I have a branch near me, should I wait for my debit card to come, or just go to the branch now that I have an account and see if the offer is there?

Genise
Genise

My guess is that it will not hurt to check in branch, when you have your debit card in hand, if they have the offer available and if you’re eligible. They apparently can check when in your account and pull the offer up.
I was told that there was no knowledge if the offer would disappear soon; the guess was not.

Finally, my bonus points posted 2 months after required spending was met.

I have a WF Checking account that I opened about a month ago and had no trouble getting this offer in-branch on Camden Avenue in San Jose, California – 40k points after $3k spend in 3 months, no annual fee for the first year. My application is pending but that’s typical for me so I’m not too worried about it. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they pulled TU.

Mike
Mike

Just applied in branch and got insta-approved, 40k miles and 0AF first year (and 8 other cards opened in last 6 months).

Btw if you have a checking account with WF you are eligible for 10% bonus miles, of your normal monthly-earned miles (no gift cards)

K F

I did the following to get offered for a 40k bonus card.

– I have a Wells Fargo Checking Acct (already got my $250).
– called the International number (925 area code) on the back of the debit card
– pressed two for credit cards, I was transferred to a CSR for existing accounts, they transferred me to a personal banker
– the personal banker wanted to ask questions about what cards I wanted, I brought up propel
– applied over the phone

You can call in and get the 40k offer. 800-642-4720 and ask for a banker to help with a new credit card application. Then ask for this card.

Applied today in branch. Card (and 40K bonus) gets its own spread in their 2017 credit card booklet that was prominently littered about the branch. Didn’t get the vibe it’s going anywhere soon.

Walked into the local WF branch on 4/9 and asked to apply for the Propel World card. Confirmed that it came with the 40K point bonus and my application was accepted in a matter of minutes. I have a checking account with WF and a FICO score in the excellent range. I met the $3000 spend requirement on 4/18. I’ll let you know when the bonus is posted.

My local branch in GA had a brochure with all the credit cards offered, 40,000 points Propel was one of them listed. It took 5 minutes to apply and the disclosures were printed to given to me to read at my own pace later. Curiously enough, Cash Wise and others (currently offered with $200 / 20,000 points online) are there but with no such sign up bonuses).

PJ
PJ

Went in branch today 5/3. CSR had never heard of this bonus, looked for it on his computer, couldn’t find it. I grabbed a brochure and showed him the 40,000 promotion. He then found it in his computer. I was approved within ten minutes. I have a checking acct. w/WF.

Applied this card in Branch on 4/29. initially it went to pending status and on 5/1 this card was showing up in my online profile.

i have one question. as this card was Amex network card. does anyone knows MS will trigger signup bonus or not?

Mike
Mike

The T&C state that gift cards won’t count toward bonus, but don’t know if in reality they do or not.

Durga

yes, T&C are specifically stating… so I am wondering if they really enforced it or not.

DP on 5/23/17 for approval in-branch with 40k point sign-up bonus for someone with an existing WF checking account. Attempted via phone earlier that day and was offered the card, but without the sign-up bonus.

Applied yesterday and went to pending with a pending $7,700 limit. Followed up today by calling and found out I got denied cause too many recent inquiries and new accounts. Tried reconning it and they said they’ll take a second look. The banker who helped me in branch also called to try to talk to them about it and it still came back as denied. He told me I should keep trying to call them which of course I plan on doing.

Any DPs or advice dealing with WF recon though? I only have 4 recent inquiries in the past 6 months and 5 new cards. I tried saying those are business cards and this will have a totally different purpose

lingua

curious as well since I want this card next and have 6 inq. in 6 months…DPs state they’re looking at last 6 months so perhaps I’ll wait a few and hope it is still around.

fathiss

I just applied via phone. I have a bank account with them. They took application over the phone and I got an immediate approval. I average about 10 new credit cards per year, so sounds similiar to you. They never questioned the amount of inquiries or cards approved in my report, and I did not freeze any credit reports.
They did tell me I would not be eligible for the 40,000 bonus if I have had this bonus within the last 16 months. Since I had this card before and closed it about 16 months ago I asked him to confirm it was from the bonus post date and the account close date does not come into play. He re-read the language and confirmed it is from the time the bonus is first given so I had nothing to worry about.

[Cross posting from other page on this credit card]

My points finally posted today. 90 days after completing the minimum spend. Slowest among all the credit cards minimum spend that I have worked upon.

Will cash out the points and keep the card around for 2nd airline credit dip.

jf
jf

Wise idea. Did you consider possibly downgrading to no af version, then at age of 16 months apply for cash wise visa so the points are worth 1.5x? Or is it not worth it? Did you use mpx for incidentals?

MontyFC
MontyFC

That’s an interesting option. However, when I look at cash wise cc, it earns 1.5% cashback on purchases, but on the redemption side it looks like 1:1 payout. So 40K points would still remain 40K points at cashout even w/ cash wise card.

Is my understanding correct?

Yes, I used MPX for incidentals (amazon gc).

jf
jf

I think that they both earn the same type of points but they combine and you do get 1.5x value… Possibly flights only but I’m thinking it’s cash.

sirtheta

It’s not the Cash Wise, but rather the Visa Signature that makes points worth 1.5x when redeemed for airfare.

I went to the branch yesterday to withdraw some cash from Wells Fargo to deposit it into the U.S. Bank accounts. This was thanks to Dee Oooh Cee’s alert about the U.S. Bank $200 promo for opening checking accounts. I said, heck, let me apply. The guy was browsing some internal WF website and could not find the Propel page. At the same time, he said that the “Application” system does show it. The credit card application system was a different window on his computer, grayish color and he said it was used exclusively for credit card applications. I told him, apply, we’ll see if it goes through. He did and the application went through. It went to a pending status and an hour after, I called the 800 number to check on the status and they told me to call back on Monday.

Applied in branch in Philly. Took a little bit to find it but was able to apply. Went pending (40 active CCs tends to do that). We’ll see. Friendly Zach didn’t know about the offer even though he had a display stack of 10 and 20k bonus cards on his desk.

Went into a Wells Fargo branch in Portland OR today and asked for the 40k World Propel offer straight up and they found it and applied it and was instantly approved with a measly $5k limit, but whatever…pay rent twice, pass go, collect a tax-free $500, next!

Posting my first DP as a new ‘devotee’ of the site.

8/18 in branch application denied. Transunion score ~715, reported income 55k, have 350k in student loans, a perfect record paying my balance on all credit cards forever since 2004 w no late payments. Denial was for debt to income ratio

Called reconsideration line 8/22 (8664125956) and explained my genuine interest in card, my status as a new doctor (explains loans, medical license is public info for their verification). They asked if i wanted to report any additional income, i asked if they would accept income I have access to that is my family’s, they said yes, I added 100k income I ‘have access to’ from a parent I do not live with.

8/23 application accepted on reconsideration, 10k credit line. Excited to pay my rent/car payment on plastiq to get the bonus 🙂

DO you need to have checking or other accounts with them to be approved, otherwise low chances to be approved if there is ZERO relationship with them?
Here the number 800-932-6736 call mention about Wells Fargo Propel World and they will be happy to help you with application! Also Rep. said it’s national wide promotion – if your branch telling you they don’t have it – speak to the manager and if anything give us a call using the number above, this promo she said can be hidden on other system, so they have to dig in to find it!

I applied back in early July and spent over $3,000 on the card. August 20th statement close with no bonus. A couple of days ago, the September statement closed and still no bonus. I contacted them and they gave me the canned answer that it will take three statement cycles for the sign up bonus to post.

Is everyone experiencing a delay until the bonus posts?

Hey SamSimon,

I applied and was approved for the card back in July with no previous relationship to the bank. Just a heads up.

Brad
Brad

I signed up today and was approved instantly. I do not have a current relationship with the bank, but did have a checking account for a bit awhile ago which might have helped as the computer (the in branch bankers computer) kept showing me as a customer since 2016. Make sure the banker goes to their internal products site where the Amex Propel World should be listed as an option, even though its not shown online. I kept mentioning that a friend just recently applied and was approved in branch. My banker was also very nice. It was a small credit limit of $5k however which is pretty standard according to the banker.

Yet Another Redditor

Thanks for this. My 16-month anniversary is coming up and I came here to look for recent success DPs so that I can actually churn this card.

Ugh, tried at a branch in S NJ and also in Philly when I was app’ing the business checking. They only have the 20k offer and were really pushing another card with $200/$1k spend. Same in San Diego back in February and March. BTW took FOREVER to open the account, 20 billion questions about what the business was (tho didn’t require a biz ID number of any sort). Only plus was the historic building on Broad st, nicest bank I’ve ever been – marble and mosaics and a gilded WF coach!

Beware of WF 15 month rule with credit card bonuses and intro APRs. You will not be able to get a card bonus or intro APR if you have received any bonus with any WF card in the last 15 months. I was finishing up my application over the phone when the rep told me this and I would have not been eligible for the 40k point bonus because I got the visa signature card earlier this year in July. The rep checked and said I would not receive the bonus…

Do you know if this applies to business cards too? I got this card in July and am now thinking of applying for a WF business card.

Called online credit card application number today and the guy said I needed to have an existing account. Then I called general customer service and reached an agent. Note: Rep had to confirm that he could offer me this deal (waited about 5 minutes). He also said that this 40K offer was able to be given over the phone, but if I applied online, then it would have only been 20K.

Thanks, DoC and Drew!
