[YMMV] American Express Delta Gold – 60,000 Miles + $50 Statement Credit – Should You Apply?

The Offer

Direct link to offer (log in to see if you’re eligible)

  • American Express have sent out targeted offers on the personal & business versions of their Delta Gold card. The offer is as follows:
    • 60,000 miles after $1,000 in spend within the first three months
    • $50 statement credit after your first Delta purchase
  • Others are being targeted for the worse 40,000 + $50 offers.

Our Verdict

The best public bonus we’ve seen on these cards is 50,000 miles + $100 statement credit, this is an additional 10,000 miles for $50 less in statement credit so I’d say that this bonus is better (minimum spend requirement also lower). Sometimes when you’re targeted for these offers you can get the additional $50 statement credit ($100 total) to show by doing a dummy booking, that doesn’t seem to be working in this case.

We have seen a targeted offer for 75,000 miles for $3,000 total spend. It is important to remember that American Express bonuses are once per lifetime as well. My personal recommendation is that this is worth applying for if you have a short term need for Delta miles, otherwise you’d be better off waiting for a higher bonus that could be available in the future. Note: If you didn’t get the 60,000 offer it definitely isn’t worth applying for.

As always before applying for this card or asking basic questions, I’d recommend reading through these things everybody should know about American Express credit cards.

Have been trying to find this information online somewhere — this thread seems to be most knowledgeable:

Applied for both personal and business Delta Skymiles Gold w/ 60k mile bonus after $1k spend in 3 months — that means 120k miles total bonus if I complete $1k on each card, correct?

(It appears my targeted Delta Skymiles Gold mailings never explicitly mention the business card, but I had the option of also applying for the business card once visiting the promo link.)

I assume yes to the 120k miles total, but since the the promo page expired April 19th, just want to double check before activating both cards. Not sure if there is ‘potential bonus due’ info somewhere for each card to double check either — otherwise would then talk to Amex online chat.

So im assuming if I got this “PLEASE VERIFY THE INFORMATION YOU ENTERED IS CORRECT AND TRY AGAIN.” then I’m not targeted?

I’ve triple checked the information I’m inputting

I got this off but my minimal spend was 750$ in 90 days to get 60k miles and 50$ credit. Expires April 19th

Forgot to mention that Q4 2016 I got off of 45k and 100$ credit if spend 1k in 90DS. I declined. I flew AirFrance business to Spain, and used KLM for Qatar, AMS, Sweden, Turkey. Flew a lot last year but don’t have airline card, just Amex Everyday along with my other 42 cards lol. I’m flying SkyTeam again business to Europe and will use KLm again for backpacking short hops this summer. Then later in year flying back to Qatar. I’m going to decline this 60k 750$ offer also. See what they offer next. I do go to Amex and input prequalify for travel card to make them think I’m looking around though.

Fails for me when I put my skymiles and last name. Does that mean I’m not targeted or retry later?

I was wondering the same thing it just gives me red writing “PLEASE VERIFY THE INFORMATION YOU ENTERED IS CORRECT AND TRY AGAIN” even though I am entering the correct information.

60k didn’t pop up for me, only 50k + $50 statement credit for 2k spend. Chose to get it for upcoming travel. Did business card, not personal

So you suggest 75k/$3k is better than 60k/$1k?
I don’t agree.
I believe this is the best offer ever for Delta Gold.

Totally depends on your personal situation. If you have high spend or MS, then the only thing you’d be looking at is the maximum miles or statement credit. If your spending has restrictions, then I’d be inclined to agree with you – sign up bonus of 60 miles/$ spent (60,000 Delta/$1,000 spend) would be better than 25 miles/$ spent (75,000 Delta/$3,000 spend).

Pay your property taxes, home and car insurance in advance, then get a 2% fee zero interest balance transfer to make balanced manageable. That’s what we did. We each got Sapphire Reserve Cards. Required $ 4000 in spending on each card. That did it.

They sent me a dozen mailers for the 75k offer last year but I’m at my 4 CC max with Amex right now so no point in buying. If I were you guys I would hold out if possible.

You can get a fifth but may need to call reconsideration. It seems their seems are still set up to auto-reject beyond fourth CC for some people, but the rule is definitely five CCS based on my conversations with them.

The 5th is often auto-approved, it’s a YMMV thing.

That’s why I said my 4 CC limit. I tried to apply for a 5th in January and was rejected for max number of type of cards. Didn’t call recon, but I just closed an unneeded SimplyCash Plus, waited 24 hours, and reapplied for instant approval.

If I really want a 5th later on and am declined for the same reason i will give recon a shot.

It is my understanding with American Express that you can have one of each of their cards but it is a onetime lifetime deal. So once I had a Delta card I will never be able to apply for future offers with this card. Is this correct?

Yes, although there are data points that Amex defines “lifetime” as a finite period of time, particularly for small business cards. Seven years seems to be the generally accepted number, although there are data points with shorter periods. You can chat Amex and ask if you’ve ever had a card before to see what their systems have on record.

Thanks, I was actually inquiring about personal Amx cards and the rep said if I had the card before I couldn’t reapply.

It is interesting that this is valid for both personal and business though. If you have a “business” and aren’t targeted for any direct business offerings, it seems that this would certainly be worth while considering it doesn’t affect 5/24 status

“this is an additional 60,000 miles for $50 less in statement credit ”

should be additional 10,000 miles 🙂
