Our Verdict
Usually every 1000 points gets you a discount of up to $1 per gallon (with 35 gallon limit), but this varies by store and region and some regions have a maximum discount whereas others you can get completely free gas. Points are awarded on the face value on a card and not the cost (e.g you don’t earn points on gift card fees).
If you purchased a $250 gift card you’d earn 1,000 points which is enough for $1 off per gallon which would save you $35 on a 35 gallon tank, you’d also earn credit card rewards and remember Kroger should code as a grocery store and plenty of credit cards offer a category bonus on those stores.
To maximize the deal even further, remember that you can get free cellphone service with Kroger when you earn fuel rewards points (you don’t need to redeem them for this, this is in addition to getting free/cheap gas).
