[Rumor] Chase Sapphire Reserve Will Have $195 Authorized User Fee

There’s a new rumor that the upcoming changes to the Chase Sapphire Reserve card will change the fee on authorized user cards from $75 to $195 annually. This is based on what appears to be a leaked terms link from Chase – you can view it here.

If true, presumably there will be enhanced benefits for authorized users as well. Probably with some of the travel or lounge benefits and the like.

Tangentially, some are recommending doing a product change to the Sapphire Reserve card today (6/16/25) as in past card enhancements the ability to product change went away when the official Chase news of the details change came out.

I didn’t think it was worth it at $75 with the long waits at PP clubs that I canceled P2. Would not even consider this at $195.

UPDATE: The new benefits kick in for existing cardholders in late October. So, if you product change now, you will fall into that timeline and your annual fee will be prorated based on the lower annual fee. If you product change after the official launch (June 23rd), you will receive the new benefits but your annual fee will be prorated based on the higher annual fee.

Best of luck.

What do you mean prorated annual fee for PC? If I PC today, I will be locked to the $550 annual fee until renewal in next year June right?

Just PC’d my Freedom Unlimited to CSR (which I’d downgraded to get CSP) last night. It’s definitely worth it to me now, so I’ll happily take another year to think about it. Not sure how it will work with anniversary date, though; whether they start a new anniversary date, or whether it will be a prorated AF until the original anniversary date, which would be only until mid-August which I think was the original launch date.

If P2 has sapphire bonus available, does it make sense to apply to the current card?

It seems likely there will be a temporary higher SUB offer to go with the rollout. Possibly much higher. Might be better for P2 to open an Ink now.

Maybe unrelated to this thread (or maybe very related). For someone mostly in Chase ecosystem, what would be the best strategy to try milking AmEx lineup. I never had any of their cards.

Go for the no annual fee card first then work your way up. The only one that you don’t have to do it in this order is Hilton cards for now.

Which counts as the lowest MR card? The Amex Green?

Start with Everyday Card, then Gold, then Platinum. I would only get the Green if they have a special offer–a couple of years ago I got it when they offered 60K plus a $200 travel credit. But I think if you have Gold/Plat you may not be able to get the Green.

Everyday cards were killed. There is no free MR personal card available to apply for. Blue Business Plus is the only no annual fee MR card.

Really? I’ve had the no fee one for years.
