Chase Sapphire Reserve $795 Annual Fee Change & Existing Cardholders Details

We’ve been dripping out leaked news of the upcoming Chase Sapphire Reserve changes, and today it was all confirmed, along with some additional details. We’ll start this post with the basic timeline, and we’ll continue in the coming hours with the full details.

  • The new card details are showing live at this Chase link
  • The new ‘improved’ Chase Sapphire Reserve card will go live on June 23, 2025.
  • Card will have a $795 annual fee. Extra $195 annual fee for each additional cardholder.
  • All of the new benefits and points earnings rates, etc, will be in effect for new card applications on June 23rd and beyond.
  • Existing cardholders will get charged the lower $550 annual fee if their renewal takes place by October 25, 2025 or prior. Card renewals on October 26th and beyond will get the $795 annual fee.

Existing Cardholders:

  • Important news: Existing cardholders will not get the new card benefits and points rates until October 26, 2025. Until then you’ll earn points and get card benefits like you did before all the changes with basically no changes at all. For example, you’ll keep the 3x travel rate through October 25th and you won’t yet get any credits for Stubhub, The Edit, etc.
  • On October 26, 2025 everyone will have all of the new card benefits, both the positive (new credits, etc) and the negative (e.g. no 3x earning on Travel, etc).
  • Card renewals before October 27, 2025 will get charged the lower $550 annual fee.
  • Your first card renewal after October 26, 2025 will get the $795 annual fee charge.

Is there any card that gives 3+ points for cruises or train travel?

For those of us who have the Wells Fargo Signature Visa, the Autograph still earns 3x on travel and the points can be redeemed at 1.5 cents each for flights. Neither card has an annual fee. There doesn’t seem to be a 1.5x option like the Freedom/Ink Unlimited in the WF ecosystem, and of course, the Visa Signature hasn’t been available in quite a while.

Not sure the changes are to make it attractive for us common people. A bump to 4% on direct hotel and airline purchases, while removing dining percentages? They are also offering two $250 credits for booking two “Edit” hotel stays (one per half-year), which seems chump change considering how expensive those are.

If they’re removing the flat 1.5x travel redemption value for some arbitrary (likely luxury as well) x2 redemption. All these exceptions just make these cards a job. This will certainly be a losing card for frugal people.

I am happy to be proven wrong and shown how to game the Edit rewards and x2, but it’s rare such expenses are part of my plans. Spending $850 to get $250 back on 2 nights, when I could have spent that for twice as long somewhere else and actually enjoy the place I’m visiting… no thanks. I’d rather not be encouraged to spend more than I need.

If you’re gaming the coupon book, you are no longer a “common” person but are then considered a travel hacker!

To confirm, I currently have the CSR and after 10/26/2025, I also get the $500 annual The Edit credit?

Wow that’s a good idea. Can we “double dip” and get $300 travel credit + $500 travel credit then cancel?

Prepare for the flood of YouTube videos telling people how Chase is paying them to have this card.

Despite being able to book one-night stays (like FHR), The Edit requires a minimum two-night stay to redeem the credit (unlike FHR)

I blame this card refresh on losing the CFPB.

One thing that existing cardholders should know is that you can’t take advantage of the new benefits until Oct 26th per the terms and conditions.

First we lose democracy then we lose 3x on all travel. Waiting for Amex refresh to lose all hope.

UnhingedCFPBer,

Are you really starting up with this nonsense again? Just in case anyone believes this, see this comment for proof that the great CFPB is alive and well: #2066912 !

I’m definitely getting rid of this card next year once my AF jumps up. These changes are terrible! I especially hate losing the 1.5x redemptions.

Is there an official post showing that we’re losing the 1.5x redemptions? I have only heard that on the rumored posts.

 Chuck,

You didn’t mention PYB in the article at all. Any news if that’s staying around?

Pay yourself back is mostly going away as we know it from what I read.
1.5x redemption of points at chase travel goes bye bye after 10/26

They may periodically pop up with an offer of a special 2x points to book through their travel portal is the rumor but standard redemption at that rate is gone in October.

Where did you read that PYB is going away? BTW, the 1.5X for Chase Travel is unrelated to PYB.

I beg to differ – P2 and I made a killing during COVID by cashing out UR with GCs via PYB 1.5 grocery stores. What a time to be alive.
