Avoiding Fees
LifeGreen Checking, $8 Monthly Fee
The monthly fee goes from $8 to $10 if you opt for paper statements instead of online statements, but this bonus requires you to opt for online statements. The monthly fee is waived if you do any of the following:
- Receive a single ACH direct deposit, such as a recurring payroll or government benefit deposit, of at least $500, OR
- Receive multiple ACH direct deposits, such as a recurring payroll or government benefit deposit, with a total combined amount of at least $1,000, OR
- Have an average monthly balance of $1,500 or more (this is presumably calculated using a daily average and is not the same as a minimum monthly balance)
Early Account Termination Fee
There is an early account closure fee of $25 if you close your account within 180 days of account opening.
Referral Bonus $50
There is also a referral bonus you can receive in addition to this $200 bonus (bringing the total to $250). This has worked in the past, but it is no guarantee to work this time around. Do not share your referrals in the comments below, they can be found and shared here.
Our Verdict
Not as good as the $400 bonus, but better than the regular $200 bonus. I’m not sure if we will see that $400 bonus return anytime soon so it could be worth doing this bonus instead. There is some targeted language in the terms, but I think that just refers to need to register for this promotion before signing up. We will add this to our best bank bonus page.

denied online, by phone, and in-branch referencing EWS, lol
Yeah this is the only bank I have personally been denied in branch at… they are picky but ill keep trying because I like money.
How do they charge the early termination fee of $25 if you’ve already removed all the money from your account?
Your account goes negative, and it gets reported to EWS/Chex (This bank doesn’t seem to use Chex, but that doesn’t mean they can’t report it). Good luck trying to churn more banks after burning one.
6/20 Account opened in branch
6/20 Enrolled in online banking
7/15 $1000+ Transfer from PayPal
9/3 $300 Bonus posted
Offer tracker updated quickly. My $50 referral DID stack with the offer. Bonus showed as expected on 9/13, but was processed 10 days early on 9/3. Bonus showed up overnight on 9/4, with a posting date of 9/3.
Did you push the money from PayPal to regions to qualify for the bonus?
Yep. It’s working monthly to keep the account fee-free as well.
It doesn’t show on Regions user-side, but PayPal transfers use ACH code PPD (Prearranged Payment and Deposit). Generally if PayPal works, that means the DD detection is rather lax and other PPDs tend to work as well (eBay, Chase, Ally, etc.).
I’ve applied four times—twice on a PC using Chrome and Edge, and twice on my phone using Chrome and Safari. After SSA/EWS verification, all applications were denied and advised me call or go to branch. Will EWS show four inquiries from Regions Bank? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Called today phone rep unable to find any offer attached to my email and no promo code CKGFALL2024 and CKG072024 on their data base. All rep insist I should go to branch for website $300 checking account opening.
Peter1991 So, you clicked on the “Direct link to offer” above, registered with your email, applied but were denied? I registered online in August and received confirmation with a link to open online (haven’t done it yet). The email also says you need to register first even if you apply in branch.
Yes, denied me 4 times…a blog said it will take 24 hous for registration to complete, therefore I call again today (after 24 hours), rep still advise no offer attached to my email.
Try to register with a different email (and use it for the application)? My registration was completed immediately. Good luck.
I will try later, thanks for the DP!
I had the same experience. registered, received the email, click through the email to apply, and got the denied message. called and agent told me no promo was applied and to complete application in-branch.
started the whole process over with a an Incognito Chrome window, new email and phone number and was instantly approved with a new account number. however, online access is pending 24-48 hours as per other comments and per an agent.
6/28 – Account opened and funded with $50. Pulled back out $45 to leave $5 balance
7/9 – $1,001 push from UFB (Axos) HYSA. Pulled right back out as soon as it posted.
8/16 – $500 push from Laurel Road checking (just to keep fee-free). Pulled right back out as soon as it posted.
8/28 – $300 bonus posted
Will continue to push in $500 each month and pull right back out until I get past the six month threshold, then close the account.
Did you receive the bonus email? And if you did on what day?
I received an email on 8/28 from Regions titled “Your bonus is available”. Is this the email you’re referring to?
Also, for what it’s worth, my bonus tracker page showed 100% complete on 7/9, so I knew the bonus was coming, I just didn’t expect it until around the 90 day mark.
There should be an earlier email with the subject: “Good news! Your bonus is confirmed.”
It should contain something along the lines of: “We will automatically deposit your bonus into your Regions LifeGreen® Checking Account by [xxxx date]”
Ahh, yes, I did get that e-mail on 7/12. That e-mail says I should receive my bonus by 9/6 (but again I actually received the bonus 8/28).
Anybody else get the targeted $500 offer?
Any DP is Venmo works to trigger income requirment?
I have $1,001 in the account since it deposited on 07/22. I got the confirmation email that I earned the bonus but I want to avoid the monthly fees.
Do I need to deposit another $500 to avoid the monthly fees so that I have $1,500 in monthly balance for the next 6 months before closing?
If you don’t want to maintain a $1500 balance, you can always ACH $500 in and out every month to avoid the monthly fee. Lots of bank ACH transfers count as DD at Regions.
Solid, once bonus posts, I’ll probably drain to 0 and run the $500 in/out every month with Fidelity reoccurring transfers.
I don’t recommend ever zeroing an account unless you intend for it to be closed. Some banks will automatically close accounts that reach zero balance. Always maintain a positive balance until you receive the bonus.
Thanks Mothman. Fine — drain to $1 😉
I’m new to all of this. Is it considered an ACH transfer when you link another bank account to the Regions bank account and initiate a transfer?
Yes, but do the linking and transfer from the other bank and not from within Regions.
Got it. Thank you!
Got my bonus email today. Transferred money out today as well. Bonus not coming in until 10/20 but its all good. Used Sofi checking transfer and can confirm it still works. Another easy bag!
Aren’t you going to eat monthly fees?
