- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
LifeGreen Checking, $8 Monthly Fee
The monthly fee goes from $8 to $10 if you opt for paper statements instead of online statements, but this bonus requires you to opt for online statements. The monthly fee is waived if you do any of the following:
- Receive a single ACH direct deposit, such as a recurring payroll or government benefit deposit, of at least $500, OR
- Receive multiple ACH direct deposits, such as a recurring payroll or government benefit deposit, with a total combined amount of at least $1,000, OR
- Have an average monthly balance of $1,500 or more (this is presumably calculated using a daily average and is not the same as a minimum monthly balance)
Early Account Termination Fee
There is an early account closure fee of $25 if you close your account within 180 days of account opening.
Referral Bonus $50
There is also a referral bonus you can receive in addition to this $200 bonus (bringing the total to $250). This has worked in the past, but it is no guarantee to work this time around. Do not share your referrals in the comments below, they can be found and shared here.
Our Verdict
Not as good as the $400 bonus, but better than the regular $200 bonus. I’m not sure if we will see that $400 bonus return anytime soon so it could be worth doing this bonus instead. There is some targeted language in the terms, but I think that just refers to need to register for this promotion before signing up. We will add this to our best bank bonus page.

1/29/25 – Opened in branch since online app wouldn’t complete after SSA
1/30/25 – $51 deposit from Chase personal checking to comply with $50 opening balance
2/06/25 – $1001 xfer from BoA personal checking (showed on tracker within a day or two)
Tried to move the $$ back to BoA but it wouldn’t let me. Turns out they locked my xfer ability for some reason. Called them and they said I needed to come into the branch to verify my ID. I ended up just spending the money out of the acct instead of going to the branch.
03/28/25 – $300 “Marketing Bonus Dig Ckg” bonus
Does the offer tracker usually come up right after opening account?
I registered with a mailer code and my email today. Then I opened an account today. I never got an email to open an account, I thought I just do it with my email. But then I saw people mentioning opening through a link in their email. I want to make sure it was applied correctly.
The tracker doesn’t open and says “An error has occurred while processing your request. Please contact system administrator.”
did you use the $400 code or the $300?
I registered with the $400 code before opening the account
Wait about five days to a week after opening before trying offer tracker.
You should be able to access offer tracker now if you opened your account around the date you posted your comment.
Can you close the account online? Or do I have to go to the branch to do it? Don’t want the hassle
