[Now Fixed] Barclays Suffering From Major Systems Outage

Update 11/01/18: Everything is now back to normal.

Barclays is currently suffering from a major systems outage affecting back end operations. The website and mobile application have been unresponsive with a static page being put up stating ‘Our website is currently unavailable and we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please check again later.’ In addition when trying to get through the phone systems after going through the menu selection an error message is repeated saying to call back later.

It isn’t clear when everything will be operational again, with Barclays stating that they have teams working 24/7 to resolve the unnamed issues. Some users have been concerned about what’s causing the downtime, in tweets the @AskBCUS team has clearly stated that this is a connectivity issue rather than a computer intrusion so there is some comforting news there.

Something weird happened when I tried to activate my new CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard just now. On activation conformation screen it said “Thank you! Your card Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi has been registered for online access.” However, under my account it is correctly saying CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select World Mastercard.

Yeah Barclays sucks. I’m using them mainly just because I’m new to the game & the Uber card is perfect for my spending. My few interactions with CS were unpleasant, automatic online subscription credit failed to refund automatically 3 times and I had to reach to twitter to finally have it resolved and when I get credits or a large purchase warning email it’s received 24 hours later. Like thanks for the heads up! Day & light between them & Amex. I’ll keep using it for now just because it matches my spending habits for a non annual fee card but once I move for something better this experience have definitely taught me to steer away from them

While your experiences might suggest otherwise, Barclays does not suck. The Uber card is the best card on the market if you’re into getting as much rewards as possible with a lower end card. The no AF and no FTF that comes with that card is absolutely worth keeping in your wallet not to mention the categories and bonuses. While I agree Amex is the best company out there when it comes to benefits and transfer partners, you have to pay high AF for those services. Barclays is the strongest contender outside of the transfer partner giants like Amex, Citi, and Chase.

As far as rewards programs most beneficial to me over years…
* AMEX – hands down #1 biggest cash cow around
*Citi – 2nd (passes chase due to AA loophole)
* Chase – 3rd
* Barclay – 4th (when they decide to approve)
* Wells Fargo – 5th but with Barclay hardest approvals they might pass barclay soon between business & personal cc and checking accounts

Everyone else irrelevant in this game

Cap One definitely does not approve anyone. My wife was declined with a credit score of 760 and I know plenty of others who were declined. You can find a thread about this on this site.

Cap One will deny people with good credit on purpose because there’s higher profit margins in taking risks with subprime borrowers who revolve than with non-profit non-revolvers. Cap One would definitely qualify as a bank that sucks.

I have both the Uber Visa and the AMEX Rose Gold Card. I use the Amex everywhere and keep the Uber Visa as a backup where people do not accept Amex. Also I agree, the Barclays app/website are not great.

After seeing/dealing with the Barclays Aviator Business website for the single payment I needed to make to that card….I am not surprised by this at all…

Tried to log in this morning and saw the issue…looks like it’s still going. Feel bad for Barclays Ops / SRE folks, they must be getting pounded.
