Preliminary Class Action Lawsuit Over Unpaid Capital One Offers

Via Top Class Actions, there’s a new class action lawsuit filed against Capital One for failing to pay out the promised rewards for Capital One Offers.

Per the lawsuit: “Capital One regularly failed to provide cardholders with the payout that they had been promised in the offer after the cardholders made purchases in reliance on the offer.”

This is just an initial filing and there isn’t yet any public page to join the claim against Capital One.

I don’t usually write about preliminary class lawsuits, but found this one interesting as it relates to the whole Offers/Deals hobby. I’ve always found it remarkable how there can be huge banks or companies with offers that consistently don’t pan out properly for years on end.

For example, this U.S. Bank $25 spend offer on utilities that everyone knows for years that they don’t actually pay out. (I did it anyway with the hope that some day they’ll audit their systems and pay out.) At one point I recall similar complaints against Citi bank bonuses not actually paying out without manual intervention. (Not sure if that’s still the case.)

In most of these cases, I don’t believe any malicious intent, it’s just something in the system not working properly. It still boggles my mind that there’s no workflow which ensures it gets fixed.
