I recently got an e-mail from reader, Sasha that I thought was worth sharing about price protection:
One credit card feature I haven’t really seen talked much worked out very well for my recently. My fridge died which caused me to have to buy a new one very quickly and I was focused more around what fit and could be delivered quickly than a big sale. The price dropped by $255 10 days after I bought it, Sears has a policy that they’ll match the price if it’s within a week but it was too late.I found out about discover’s price protection policy that if a price goes down 90 days from the time you bought the identical item they will send you a check for the difference. I got my check for $255 yesterday which was about 2.5 weeks after filing a claim, I think Chase has a similar feature on their cards. It was pretty painless, I just had to call in originally to say I was submitting a claim, then I got an email onto which I had to attach the receipt from when it was purchased and the ad with the lower price (screenshot with a date is acceptable).
It’s always great to get the best price on a product as possible, but sometimes you’re in a rush and need the item ASAP (e.g a fridge) and this is when credit card benefits like price protection really come in handy. We’ll do a post soon on the price protection policies different credit card issuers offer.
