The Offer
Alliant is sending out an email offer on their Visa Platinum Rewards credit card:
- Get 4 points per dollar (worth 4%) on all Amazon spend during the month of July.
They promote it as geared towards the upcoming Amazon Prime Day, which will take place on July 16-17 and probably include some lead-up deals in the days before.
The Fine Print
- This offer is not transferable. Only those members selected to participate in this offer are eligible.
- Amazon 4 points per dollar promotional offer runs between 07/01/2018 and 07/31/2018.
- Amazon.com purchases include those made through Amazon.com checkout which includes Amazon Local Deals, Digital Downloads, Amazon Fresh order, and Amazon Prime subscriptions.
- Items sold by third party merchants through Amazon.com’s marketplace are also eligible.

- Amazon gift card and e-gift card purchases are not eligible for this promo.
- Amazon purchases on your Alliant Platinum Rewards Visa must be posted within the promotional period in order to earn 4 points per dollar spent.
- With your Alliant Platinum Rewards account, you are already earning 2 points per dollar based on the terms and conditions of your account. The additional 2 points per dollar earned will be posted in one lump sum, net of returns, to your Rewards account within 30 days after the promotion concludes on July 31, 2018.

Our Verdict
Not sure if this is targeted, I’m guessing Alliant sent out this offer to all Visa Platinum cardholders (update the offer is targeted and you’re not eligible unless you received the offer). For avoidance of any confusion, this is not the 2.5% Visa Signature card – this is the 2% Platinum card.
It’s interesting to see them jump on the Amazon Prime bandwagon, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more of that kind of thing coming from other companies. I doubt the gift card exclusion will be enforced, but it’s worth keeping in mind.
4% is pretty good. A lot of us have the 5% Amazon Chase card or the 5% Amazon Synchrony card. Other people like buying Amazon gift cards at a bonus category (e.g. at Staples or Office Depot with an INK card) and earning bonus rewards that way. Worth stocking up now if you expect to do some spend during the upcoming Prime day season.
