[Expired] Amazon: AncestryDNA Genetic Testing for just $54.99

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (contains our affiliate link, remember you could use Jetblue instead)

Amazon has the following Deal of the Day:

The Fine Print

The Amazon deal is a Deal of the Day and ends at midnight tonight (11/27/17) PT; the 23andme direct deal also ends tonight

Our Verdicts

23andme also has asale on their ancestry test for $99 each when you buy two instead of the standard $199 each. (On Amazon this one is $129 so you’re better off buying direct.)

Genetic testing isn’t for everybody and you should do some research before purchasing this for yourself or somebody else. Here is a good place to start. Knowing that you’re at a genetic risk for something or a carrier for something can really play with your mind. I personally find these sorts of reports to be insanely interesting, but it’s definitely not for everybody. Please do your research before purchasing!

I’m not an expert of the difference between the various genetic testing companies, share your thoughts in the comments if you have more information.

South Park covered this pretty well.

Buying the Ancestry product apparently grants them perpetual license to use and sell your DNA including to your insurance company. They couldn’t pay me enough money to sign on for that

Wow, glad someone reads the fine print! Off hand, do you know if 23andMe does the same?

Their website claims they don’t – right on the home page in the FAQ

I think this might be an outdated concern based on some unclear language in their terms and conditions. They addressed it on their website back in May. I’m going to get this for my SO as she’s interested in it- but I would echo Chuck’s caution to learn a little more about this kind of thing before buying into it. I work in molecular biology and these kinds of tests have a lot of limitations both on the human illness side and on the ancestry side.

Can you point us to where you see that? I see “we use your Genetic Information to provide products and services to you and improve our products and services for all our users,” but also “Ancestry does not share Genetic Information with employers, insurance providers, or third party marketers without your consent.” Thanks.

Just following up on this. Looks like there is a law preventing adverse actions due to this info. Seems legit but what do i know.

The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA)

Amazon was offering the full 23andme kit for $99 on Black Friday as a “Deal of the Day”. Picked one up myself.

If anyone’s interested in learning more about DNA testing and specifically 23andMe, Destin on Smarter Everyday made a great video about this. Link below:

This is an Ancestry.com deal, not 23andme.

The amazon deal is another company called ancestry not 23and me.
Also you should note that the $99 price only applies when you buy two kits on 23andme website.
