American Airlines Business Extra Changes

American Airlines has made some changes to it’s business program called ‘Business Extra’. The changes go into effect on January 1, 2023 (goes into effect immediately for those that signed up after October 4, 2021).

  • More difficult to become and stay a member:
    • Must have at least three unique travelers on account
    • Maintain $5,000 in qualifying Business Extra flight activity during the previous 12-month period to redeem points

In addition you’ll be able to redeem points for the following:

  • AAdvantage® status:
    • Gold for 3,200 points
    • Platinum for 6,600 points
  • 300 business extra points for one carbon emission tonnage offset
  • Convert Business Extra points to AA miles at a 1:6 ratio

Obviously these changes are designed to get rid of accounts that aren’t real businesses.
