American Express has acquired restaurant reservation platform Resy. Resy partners with 4,000 restaurants in 154 US cities and 10 countries and helps power their reservation platform. The acquisition is expected to be completed in summer of 2019. Last year American Express launched it’s own mobile restaurant booking feature for Platinum & Centurion cardholders. American Express also recently acquired LoungeBuddy.

I made two reservations during the qualifying period, and 1000MR posted to my account today! Paid with my CSR, so it seems just making a reservation with the Amex on file qualified.

Do they charge a fee to make a reservation? The website is really vague and seems to say that sometimes a fee may be charged but I don’t know where that fee would show up. Do they tell you when making the reservation, or does the restaurant add a fee to the bill they give you when you’re done eating?

When paying for your meal, do you pay the restaurant directly, or pay Resy? (And if paying Resy, does it count as a restaurant for cards such as Amex 4x categories?)

For folks in Hawaii, don’t bother. Only 4 restaurants on the app, and they’re not THAT good.

Do you have to pay with your Amex card, or just add it to your Resy wallet as an option

The only reason I had heard of Resy was through the Radisson app. If you accessed Resy through the app, you got 200 bonus points for every seated reservation. After seeing this news today, I checked, and it is no longer an option on the Radisson app. I know it was there recently. Cannot say for sure it is related, but it is an interesting coincidence.

Radisson has dumped everything on my app, most recently eBay and Delivery.com – nothing populates in the ‘Extras’ tab now.

Cant think of a time when one a large bank bought one of these tech startups that actually turned out to be anything meaningful in the end. Just $ to waste while they try to act like they are cool and hip.

I actually use Resy quite a bit, it’s super convenient and a load of local places use it. I’ll be interesting to see what Amex has planned for it.

I have used it because a lot of places have dumped open table and moved to Resy.

Capital One’s current partnership with Resy might possibly end soon.
