American Express Hilton Credit Card Sign Up Bonuses Announced [Application Links Now Live]

Update: All of the application links are now live:

Original post: American Express has announced the sign up bonus on the new Hilton cards. They are as follows:

  • Hilton Honors American Express Card (no annual fee card): 50,000 points after $1,000 in spend within the first three months
  • Hilton Honors American Express Ascend Card: Up to 100,000 points, broken down as follows:
    • 75,000 points after $2,000 in spend within the first three months
    • An additional 25,000 points after you spend an additional $1,000 within the first six months
  • Hilton Honors American Express Business Card: Up to 100,000 points, broken down as follows:
    • 75,000 points after $3,000 in spend within the first three months
    • An additional 25,000 points after you spend an additional $1,000 within the first six months
  • Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card: 100,000 points after $4,000 in spend within the first three months. This also comes with a free weekend night certificate your first year and on card anniversary.

I think the sign up bonus on the Aspire is weak, I was expecting a free night offer of at least two nights if not three. The fact it has effectively a worse sign up bonus than the Ascend and business card is surprising, although the benefits are significant but you’d also expect that with the $450 annual fee. More to come.

Funny how this came out as I just asked you about it LOL. I prefer the business version anyway but I will wait to see when they come out with a free night cert attached w/out the spend. I might try to wait it out for when it becomes an upgrade via the site although I realize that can be awhile from now.

Definitely will hold on applying for the aspire. That is a super weak bonus….

Pi-nope
Pi-nope

I hope they give bonus for an upgrades later in the year without the lifetime language.

No premium business card?

So existing Amex HH holders should cancel and sign up for these cards.

Yeah, curious about this too…

My cards were switched over automatically and I was informed this negated my ability every to get a welcome bonus on the card (HHonors and Surpass changed to Honors and Ascend)

How were you informed of this? Are you sure that applies if you cancel your Citi cards before 1/30? What I was told by an Amex phone rep: If you cancel your citi cards before 1/30, nothing transfers to Amex and those Amex Hilton cards you just received in the mail would be null and void. Couldn’t activate them if you wanted to he said. Was also told the bonus would be available unless, again, you don’t cancel your Citi Hilton cards before 1/30. Then you are screwed. Who knows what the real story will be, the phone reps make up answers when they don’t know the answer.

What makes the aspire sign up bonus worse than the ascend? Isn’t 100k plus a free night better than 100k?

Andy
Andy

100k points on 3k spend vs 4k spend

Ray

Weak…Hilton points are so worthless than 100k can’t even get you 2 nights in most places. What is anyone supposed to do with a lousy 50k bonus? The only Hilton card that was worth signing up for was the Citi Hilton Reserve since it came with 2 nights. I know they’re trying to focus more on benefits rather than bonus for profitability, but this is so weak for the leisure traveler. Between the weak bonus and the Zimbabwe dollars level of Hilton points devaluation, I don’t see this being a very successful portfolio, but I’m just a random guy on the internet

I think on the contrary, Hilton is the best program for leisure traveler. It give you a very meaningful status ( free benefit ) just for having a card. You most likely would be very hard to get anything like this in any other program since you don’t spend enough on road.
Don’t be confused by the number per point value. Hilton point are reliably worth 0.5 cents /point and very easy to accumulate.
The sign on bonus equivalent to $500 so it is pretty lame I agree. But for the free status alone it worth to have.

Kent C

Used to be easy to accumulate. You could churn those Citi cards without cancelling. Maybe if you are doing MS on them.

Amex Platinum got me Hilton gold and SPG gold status = Marriott Gold as well if fully utilize $400 uber + travel credit you are paying $150 annual; fee, and not to mention the lounge access and other benefits. So I am not sure why a single Hilton status is so good? And not to mention MR point is far better than Hilton point

Lu

you won’t find me argue again Amex Plat. just the same for CSR. But for leisure traveler, it is hard to justify one high annual fee let alone 2. If you have to choose one from the 2, most people probably will choose CSR.
Without AP, the easiest status that give you something real ( breakfast) is only the Hilton’s gold via Ascend. Gold for SPG means very little and gold for Marriott means something but neither you can get without turn in a lot of annual fee for premium cards ( Amex Plat or Ritz )

i wanna see DP of people apping the CC when they have more than 5-6 amex. due to this new relationship, i will guess amex will allow u to app for HH and get more than 6 since the success of this partnership is key.

AP
AP

So I now have 8 Amex CC…maybe there is no limit. I applied for the business card for fun…and got approved with a 3000 CL

Rob

8 Credit cards or 8 cards? You don’t count charge cards for purposes of the Amex 5 credit card limit.

AP
AP

Yes. I am aware. 8 credit cards.
BIz – SPG, simply cash, now Hilton
Personal – EDP, Blue cash, SPG, Aspire x2 (one incoming from Citi)

Rob
Rob

So if I understand your data point correctly, you had 5 credit cards going into today (SPG,SPG, Simply Cash, Blue cash, EDP) and just successfully applied for the business Hilton and the Ascend card (You said aspire x2 with one coming from Citi, but Citi will be ascend card so I’m thinking you meant ascend) So you were at 5 and then just got approved today for 2?

AP
AP

So I had 5 cards going into 11/29/17. I applied for the old Amex surpass approved. Card #6, Citi paid card conversion #7, applied for Hilton business #8. I would be happy to send screenshots to doc – but yes.

Wow, congratulations! Very helpful data points. Much appreciated!

NinjaX

so basically u have been able to get more HH credit cards which allowed u to pass the limit? nice. that may show amex is letting it happen on purpose for the HH partnership.

GIven Aspire is once-per-lifetime, if one were to churn-and-burn it after one year, best to apply in mid-Dec so one could get the $250 airline credits for 3 different calendar years before cancelling.

If I recall, I do think those annual Hilton certs are crafty in that they don’t seem to come until the annual fee cancellation period has passed, so not as good as Chase who posts them at a time when you could still cancel.

chao

does amex still has 4 personal cards rule again? because with citi hilton transfer, I have 5 perosnal cards now. should I cancel any before I apply?

Adam
Adam

Honestly, the Aspire is such a good card, I am surprised it even has a signup bonus. The annual weekend night alone can be worth over a thousand dollars if used at a high end Hilton during peak times. Add to that a $250 airline incidental credit which will hopefully work on airline gift cards like It does with AMEX platinum and a $250 resort credit and you are coming out way ahead if you stay at a Hilton at least once a year.

And of course the card gives you diamond status. I will be applying as soon as the application is available.

My thinking, too. One annual Hilton resort stay — and there are actually quite a lot of these suckers, not all steretypically resort-y — and this is a gift that keeps on giving. (Would be nice to see some quick DPs on airline incidental credit usage with this card).

Like many folks, I’m a waiting-for-my-free-night captive on the Citi Hilton Reserve to Amex Ascend transition, and I am wondering (hoping) if pulling the trigger on the Aspire before 30 Jan helps avoid the too-many-Amex-cards problem, which otherwise might rear its ugly head.

Blue
Blue

The resort credit is interesting. Valueless to me but it could do a couple of interesting things:

1) Prompt people to choose a Hilton resort in a specific location rather than a competitor

2) Essentially function as a waiver of resort fees.

If they did increase the offer for the Aspire in the future, I’d be surprised if it was anything different than a temporary increase to 125k pts vs 100k like the surpass historically. Probably not changing to a free night cert. Based on this, is there any value in waiting? Also doesn’t bode well for the future Marriott Amex premium card.

Adcend application T&C doesn’t have the language that suggests those have or had Surpass cannot get sign up bonus.

No upgrade offers is disappointing.
