American Express has partnered with Knot (an Amex Ventures portfolio company) to launch a pilot test run of card of file at select merchants as Bloomingdale’s, Hilton and Macy’s. Cardholders that are included in the pilot are able to automatically add their ‘card-on-file’ at the participating merchants. This is the combination of two technologies:
- Knot’s CardSwitcher™, which lets customers change their payment methods easily with different merchants without the need to enter their Card.
- American Express proprietary technology, which enables customers to share their payment data securely with their permission
Can’t really see these sorts of things taking off if they are restricted to a single payment network/card issuer.
Amex really needs to word on their naming. Who was ever going to sign up for something called cabbage with a k?
kabbage was a product of kabbage, and once amex bought it, they renamed it?
No thanks, putting my foot down firmly until Dunkin Donuts is on the list.
Or they could just combine all their cards into one and charge an aggregated fee of all of them.
What’s stopping them from making a card that gets all the best of the Plat, Gold, Green and add the AF into it and call it a day.
Trying to reinvent the wheel for no reason
Oh sweet summer child. Amex gets paid on breakage. No freaking way they will make it easier for you.
Ever since DoC got me hooked onto this lifestyle, I’ve spent countless hours deleting saved payment methods from all my online and mobile accounts and adding new ones. Now imagine a store also saves my card and I have to be like, “um sorry I’m not sure which of my Amex ending in 1001 you’re talking about.”
That’s why I stopped saving cards to accounts; I’m always getting new ones
All I can think is what sort of bonus are they gonna offer for linking?
