American Express Serve Making Changes To Inactive Accounts

American Express has announced some changes to Serve on 10/28/21. The main change is that they can close accounts that sit empty, don’t have new funds added, or are otherwise unused for “extended periods.”

Good.

I have five “active” serve accounts where I lost the usernames, passwords, AND the cards. I know I have five accounts out there, but no easy way to prove it.

Maybe now AMEX will close all my accounts for me. That would be nice.

How often do you load your serve w your amex? I just can’t see why they, of all cc companies, allow this. I feel like there’s a catch.

Looks like they (finally?) added language prohibiting manufactured spending onto the card.

Time to activate dormant cards

My Serve account was nixed in the Great Closure Wave of 2014… but I still get spam from those bastards as if my account was still open for business.

The first Great Closure Wave was in 2016 🙂
You might want to check that your account is actually closed. It could be that they only prevented loading more money, and you yourself had to close it. If you didn’t, the account could actually be open all this time.

Sorry, typo. It was 2015. When I got the ‘ban’ notice I called and unambiguiously told them to close. Whether they actually did or not is unknown since I was unable to log in after that.

Damn! By “making changes” I should have known it would not mean “reactivating”. That was a good run when it worked. I miss Serve.
