Using Multiple Tags To Find Content That Interests You

Awhile ago we started using tags to help categorize posts. At the end of each article/blogpost you’ll see the tags of that post and clicking those tags will show you all the posts that have that tag. You can actually filter this further by using the + symbol to show all of the posts with two tags.

This can be particularly useful for something like bank account bonuses. Let’s say you want to find all of the bank bonuses in California with a soft pull. You could use the following url to do so: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/tag/ca-bank-bonuses+soft-pull/

The first tag is ‘ca-bank-bonuses‘ (this is what we tag all California bank bonuses with) and the second tag is ‘soft-pull‘ and this is what we tag bank bonuses that do a soft pull. You can take this a step or two further and use the following strings:

  • https://www.doctorofcredit.com/tag/ca-bank-bonuses+soft-pull+credit-card-funding (this will show ca bank bonuses that do a soft pull with credit card funding)
  • https://www.doctorofcredit.com/tag/ca-bank-bonuses+soft-pull+credit-card-funding+direct-deposit-not-required (this will show ca bank bonuses that do a soft pull with credit card funding and without a direct deposit required to trigger the bonus)

Obviously a lot of older posts at the moment don’t have the correct tags applied at the moment, but I’m in the process of trying to update as many of these as possible (please no requests for now, in a few months time I’ll ask for help rounding up the missing ones). For some of the more popular queries and tags I’ll be making this easier to use over time (e.g for each state’s bank bonus tag at the top below where it says ‘Tag – <state> bank bonuses’ currently there will be a little introduction section with permanlinks to some of the more popular tag categories’. In the future we also hope to make searching by tag/category much easier as well, but that is a long way off at this stage.

Would it be possible to make some tag include other tags? e.g. #Food delivery would include #chowbus, #ubereats, #grubhub, etc; and then if someone search for a higher-level tag, the results will automatically show posts with any lower-level tags in the category.
If so your authors do not need to add duplicate tags to the same post.

Thanks Doc. Would help making finding posts way easier. Good job on the gradual move to a better organized site.

Is there a way to get all articles except bank bonuses that aren’t either national or in my state? I tend to find every post great enough, unless there’s really no ability for me to utilize it like the regional bank bonuses

realize this option, but think it doesn’t quite fit.

One step closer to automating one of my favorite hobbies – alleviating banks of their excess cash 😛

It’s not a dirty job, but someone has to do it!
