American Express Waiving AF On Blue Cash Preferred For Some Who Applied In August

Some people that applied for the Blue Cash Preferred card in late August will have their first year annual fee ($95) waived due to the fact that the American Express didn’t properly display the annual fee on their website. If you’ve already had the annual fee charged to your account, they will issue a statement credit to refund the fee amount.

I suspect this had something to do with the fact that American Express increased the annual fee on this card to $95 (from $75) on August 3rd. The reports I saw on /r/churning said that they had applied on or around August 26th, 2016 so I suspect this will only affect a very small number of readers, but could help explain why you have received a statement credit for $95.

My Fee ($95) was charged on Aug 19, but I do not see it was credited back. Should I be calling them? What do I say?

I applied the amex BCP on August 30, and this is my 5th amex credit card. Charged $95 AF in the 2nd statement, and got AF credited back in the 3rd statement, it was marked as “amex error”. Also, so far I did not see hard pull for this application.

I received an email to upgrade my blue cash to the blue cash preferred by spending $1000 in first 3 months. The terms listed: “Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents.”

Is the language used for the ineligible purchases new?

No, it’s always been there.
