Amex Business Platinum WeWork Benefit Extended through Dec. 2020 for Anyone Enrolled

American Express just sent out an email to their Business Platinum cardholders that all those who enrolled in WeWork will continue to keep the benefit through December 31, 2020. This is even for those who enrolled earlier in the year, whose year of membership was slated to end in middle of 2020.

Note: you still need to enroll in WeWork before the end of December to be eligible, see Last Chance to Take Advantage of Amex Platinum WeWork Benefit by December 31st (Lock in Full Year Membership Now). The news here is just that they are extended the membership for all existing enrollees beyond the single-year benefit, through December 2020.

It’s not clear why they decided to throw out this added benefit, maybe for sake of clarify or as a goodwill gesture. My guess is that they worked it out in a deal with WeWork for no additional cost to Amex. In any case, for some this benefit is of very minor value, yet for others it’s a huge savings.

Just received a survey from WeWork about the Amex benefit and how it can be improved, what are the most valuable aspects, etc. The survey even asked if WeWork can discuss by phone via an informal call. The tone of the survey suggests that the Amex WeWork benefit may be extended beyond 2020.

I didn’t get the email either. When I called Platinum business card services I was told that I would have to pay for WeWork access after my AMEX first year free benefit expires in Q1 2020.

I just got the card at the end of Nov and being based in NYC and travel a fair bit, the WeWork perk is pretty useful. My membership already runs till Dec 2020. Probably unlikely but I hope they can find a way to extend it beyond 2020.

Why wouldn’t it? SoftBank has deep pockets. They’re still opening up new locations as was planned. Probably won’t be signing any new deals, but there’s still lots of locations in the pipeline that keep getting opened up.

I really really hate this benefit. While I run the business and need the benefit my boss is ‘primary’ card holder and the benefit is only for that user. Stupid stupid of amex.

Yeah they should extend primary benefits to everyone. I’m sure that will make them tons of money, considering the primary is the only one responsible for the bill.

Perhaps you should work out your job titles, responsibilities and liabilities with your boss

No need for the snark, this is a legitimate concern. It would not be impossible for AmEx to work out a system whereby a primary cardholder can designate one account user as the beneficiary of this perk.

That’s a hint that you should become the ‘boss’ i.e own the business

@tom, where in the WeWork website does it mentions the extension for existing Amex Business Platinum card holder? I called Amex and they said there is no such extension. I searched around WeWork website and found no such ads. None of my emails from Amex or WeWork mentions about the extensions as well.

¹This offer is made available by WeWork and not by American Express. Platinum Global Access is a product of WeWork subject to WeWork’s terms and conditions, and is only available to the Basic Card Member of a Business Platinum Card account.

Can you go to your account manager page in the wework portal then go to upcoming bill section and see when your discount ends? I signed up in feb 2019 and it says my discount expires feb 2020. Curious if your expiration date is dec 2020 or a year from when you signed up.
