Last Chance to Take Advantage of Amex Platinum WeWork Benefit by December 31st (Lock in Full Year Membership Now)

Around a year ago, American Express business Platinum card increased their annual fee and added a few benefits, including a one-year membership to WeWork work-sharing spaces. We advised not signing up immediately if you won’t be using it right away since it’s a one-time benefit.

Well, they subsequently announced that the benefit will no longer be available beginning in 2020. BUT if you signup by December 31st, you’ll get a full year of membership.

So the next few weeks is your last chance to enroll. If you see yourself making use of this during the coming year, it’s worth enrolling now since you won’t be able to enroll once January arrives.

Some people might even want to sign up for the Platinum business card to get this benefit, depending on how you value it (Amex pegs it at $2,700). I don’t see it being offered at the public signup link, but it might still be there in practice, just not advertised. Let us know if you recently signed up for the card and are able to enroll. There might also be other links that still show the WeWork benefit.

“(Amex pegs it at $2,700)” Found it pretty useless. The location that I needed books up a week in advance. In busy areas its not like you can just drop in. You have to reserve a spot several days ahead of time, so I found it not of much use especially since there is only one location in the area. I needed a place where if I had an unforeseen wait between meetings etc I could stop buy and get some work done. Can be of use to people who know they will need the space several days in advance, but for people with schedules that constantly change on the fly probably not going to be very effective unless you are in an area with few wework patrons.

Signed up, thank you! I am pretty sure I will never use it but it doesn’t hurt to have it for free just in case if I end up needing it.

I found out that from WeWork customer service that the Amex WeWork benefits is the Hot Desk option.

Hot Desk:
Included We Membership plus access to any available desk in the common area of your favorite WeWork Hot Desk location. Just bring your laptop, pick an open seat, and get to work.

Useless benefit as the WeWork location in my area will not be available until June 2020, but I will still sign up.

I signed up last week, but am planning to cancel the Biz Plat next month. Curious to see how long it takes them to figure out the card is cancelled and nix the membership.

Will miss this greatly, but I didn’t expect it to last. It’s just too valuable of a benefit.

I’m a freelancer in NYC, so there are always lots of locations I could go to. Some locations fill up faster than others, but there’s always somewhere to go if need be. if I paid out of pocket for the location I frequent the most, it would actually cost me almost $4K a year. That’s insane value. Easily the most valuable credit card perk I’ve ever gotten. My preferred location isn’t overly loud, there’s usually decent space, quiet phone booths. Plus there’s beer, coffee, and they always manage to do special events around holidays and special occasions. The staff is friendly and I can stay past 6 and come in earlier than 9 too.

Getting sad about this already. And I have through Halloween of next year.

Same. Easily one of the most valuable benefits I have gotten out of any card. It helps to be in NYC where it seems pretty easy to get into one of the many offices even on the day of.

I’m in NYC too, and I thought I would use this benefit a lot more often. I like WeWork overall, but I live north of 140th Street and some days I just can’t be bothered to leave my home office for another space way downtown. But then I get WeWork emails about special events and freebies and I feel like I’m wasting a hugely valuable perk that was part of the reason I signed up for the card last December — locking in the old annual fee for the first year while getting this benefit for 2019.

Now that I’ll probably be canceling the card soon, I’d like to make the most of my final weeks. Mind sharing which WeWork location it is that you find so nice? I can’t stand it when people make loud FaceTime or Skype calls in the common work area.

Also, how do you use the spaces outside of the approved hours for Amex cardmembers? Just swipe your keycard like a normal member, no questions asked? I wasn’t sure if it would work before 9am or past 6pm. How about on weekends?

It seems like every location is different as it pertains to these rules, but the one I frequent, you swipe when you enter the building downstairs and that’s it. If it’s before/after 9-6, you’ll have to swipe at the entrance of the office on the floor. But I’ve never not had it work in those instances. I have admittedly not tested it out on weekends, but I’m guessing it probably won’t work. It seems like your card is tied to days you’ve booked desks and since desks aren’t available to book on weekends, I’d gather it won’t work. Maybe I’ll try it some time if I’m in the area on a weekend just to see though.

Just got an “Open a 2nd Business Platinum” offer in the mail with a welcome offer code for a 50K-for-$10K spend or 75K-for-$20K spend, so I grabbed it and will be signing up for the benefit before year’s end. (Not the best welcome offer ever, but no lifetime langage, so I figured it was better than no welcome offer.) Will post results.

Did u use same business name/details as in first card?

Ivan X

Yes I did. It was very clearly pitched to me as a special offer to open a second card with a second welcome bonus for the same business, with incentives like “double the airline credits, double the limits on 35% rebate and 1.5x charges, and track expenses separately.” Surprising mailer.

Useless feature for most, maybe valuable to a few but with limited locations and space availability, this is a useless perk….Unless thew would reimburse $2700 to all Business Platinum cardholders who would or not be able to use this feature…..Not a hot feature/card perk to get or retain the card for additional year(s)

Not useless at all for some of us. I’m in LA and go 3-4 days a week without any issues.

does anyone know of way to take advantage of this so that someone else can use the wework benefit? say my player 2 gets the card, is there any way for them to sign up for the wework benefit so that i can use it?

Jr
Jr

You can try but it might be difficult. When you go to WeWork for the first time, they take a picture of you so that when you sign in each day, they see who you are. Not sure if they always look at the monitor when you check in so be aware of the risk.

If I sign up now and closed the card in January, I still keep the benifit?

Ivan X

According to the WeWork signup page, yes you could lose it, but who knows how well linked their systems are.

Tommy Chen
Tommy Chen

No, you will lose your access if you close your account. It usually takes around 30 days for WeWork to deactivate your account.

Did anyone recently apply for this card? I’ve been considering signing up for a co-working space and 550 a year is the cheapest price I’ve seen yet.

Is there any point to claiming this benefit if you don’t have a location local to you?

Dan M.
Dan M.

I don’t see the point unless you travel a lot to the same area and need a place to work, but it’s not gonna hurt you either way since its free.
