Amex Offers: Dell get $75 or 7,500 MR with $300 Purchase

The Offer

A new targeted Amex Offer popped up in this afternoon. There are two versions of the offer, depending on the card:

  • Get 7,500 Membership Rewards points by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $300+ in one or more transactions online at dell.com
  • Get a $75 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $300+ in one or more transactions online at dell.com

My_American_Express_Account_Summary

The Fine Print

  • Valid through 3/25/17
  • Not valid for e-gift card purchases; excludes gift card purchases
  • You can spend the $300 in one transaction or combined across multiple transactions
  • Not valid on purchases shipped outside the US, Puerto Rico, USVI and Guam; excludes international contact center, Global events, Dell Financial services and authorized retailers

Our Verdict

I got this on my Blue Cash cards and some others. This is a fairly popular offer, although gift cards don’t work here. Worth adding it to a few cards in case. You can use up to two three cards online for a purchase.

I placed a $900 order online split bt 3 cards. Call center from India immediately called me and asked me crazy things like if I was a student or biz, wanted my work email and a copy of my DL. He would not process the order until I sent him a copy of my DL.

Have 8/8 for 300-75, but don’t need anything from Dell. Sad…

Very strange behavior, I had seen the offer on my BCP card and after just 10 mins I login to my account and the offer is gone, Is there anyway to get this offer back?

No, it is limited quantity and once the maximum number of offers have been added to cards, it is no longer available. The real bummer is how many people add it to the card with no intent of using it and they go wasted 🙁

I was able to add on to the card(s).

I noticed that the offer start date is 2/1. Is it normal for an offer to appear in between of the validity period?

I think this is a case Amex has regularly where they have an offer that reaches the limit and they remove it from availability, but when the actual usage turns out lower, they release more offers.

Is this one offer per online account?

“up to two cards online for a purchase and even more than that over the phone.”
Perfect! Thanks!!

Seems dead already.

These Dell offers go so fast 🙁 I thought i was finally going to get one, it showed up on my account, I was excited, opened extra tabs for the other cards on this account and wow … multiple cards had it. But then cycle back around to add it … no longer available 🙁

I missed it as well. Is there any rationale around how long the offer is up until it’s taking down?

Whatever pre-set quantity Amex/Dell has set for the limit. Once that is reached, the offer is pulled.

I don’t know the number of offers available, but the Dell offers in particular are always hit hard. Mostly because they sell such a wide range of electronics, and this offer is 3x what you will get from Newegg or Best Buy, plus Dell has high portal cash back rates + they usually bundle promo gift cards. In short, you can get quite a bargain stacking deals with Dell 🙂

It appears dead. It was in my account 5 minutes ago and now it’s gone.

Is there any way to synch multiple cards from a tablet or phone?

thanks for the post, and wife & I also see it on our “Blue Cash Everyday” card. (which we’ve had since last century — 😉 though seem to recall they’ve changed the names of it a few times, usually around “blue”)

While the cash back for a Dell purchase is a nice promo, we’d actually like to earn it in the form of Membership Rewards points. (in part as we need to transfer even a small amount over to Iberia — to get initial “qualifying activity” there — to unlock a stash of languishing British Airways miles. (odd, I know)

Pardon our confusion though, is there anyway to earn MR points with the “blue cash everyday” card — or do we need to apply to get a distinctly separate Amex “everyday” card.

Strange place to ask, but no; there is no way for any card product in the ‘Cash’ family to be tied to a Membership Rewards program. You will need to open (or product change to) a card that does earn MR. The list is very long because it also includes most charge cards in addition to the ED (the “everyday” card that you mentioned) and EDP. Hint: none of them contain the word ‘Cash’ in their names.

Would like to clarify though that (AFAIK) it is not possible to PC any ‘Cash’ products to MR products.

“strange?” 😉 Maybe to you, yet question was prompted by wording in Chuck’s original post where he noted that he’d gotten the offer via his Blue Cash card…. And so I logged on to our ancient blue account (the one we use “everyday” — by golly, and see that it’s now even called “Blue Cash Everyday”)

Guess we’ve been spoiled by the much preferred Chase UR program (where you can get cash, points, whatever — no wild confusion within the family — ah but that may seem “strange” to some)

Anyway, yes, did just chat with Amex on-line rep. who ‘splained that (unlike Chase UR cards) the Amex “everyday” lines of cards are not interchangeable, that “Amex blue everyday (cash)” and “Amex everyday” (points) don’t speak the same language. (so to speak)

which leaves us rather …. (ahem) blue.

Odd it is that we don’t get Amex offers in the mail, esp. given we’re 800+ so and so’s with decades of perfect credit. (we get lots of offers via citi, chase, US Bank, et. al) Maybe long ago, we “opted out” of offers. (have no idea how to “opt back in” — and the rep. today wasn’t offering to help)

yes, “strange” (but perhaps a topic for the doctor team to engage in a future (past?) post.

ah, google searching found lots of suggestions….. and checked my account settings, all “on” — but still no offers. Whatever. Will stick with CUR. (and find another way to unlock BA to Iberia)

Correct, and as I explained above there is no way for any ‘Cash’ product to interact with any MR product.

You mentioned your “ancient blue account” turning into the BCE that you now have. Since Amex was planning on sunsetting the old Amex Blue products (specifically the Amex Blue and Amex Blue Cash), starting in 2015, they started notifying cardholders that their old Amex Blue or Amex Blue Cash cards were automatically going to be PCed into the newer ‘Everyday’ family of cards. Blue would be PCed to Blue Everyday (what we call ED), and Blue Cash (we now call this the OBC) would be PCed to Blue Cash Everyday (BCE). In the case of the OBC at least, cardholders were given a grace period of 45 days to call Amex and have the product conversion reversed after the product conversion was executed. The OBC (which is probably what you had before) still exists today as a potent vehicle for MSers everywhere, but new signups are closed such that it is only accessible via a PC. I’m not sure what happened with the points-earning Blue card product.

“but new signups are closed such that it is only accessible via a PC”

Whoops I mixed them up while I was writing it out–I apologize for that.
It is the complete opposite: new signups are the only way of obtaining the OBC nowadays, since PCs to the OBC are closed.

If you only need a small number of miles, it is probably cheaper, and less impact, to just buy the points from Iberia instead of trying to get to some small number of transferable points.

thanks for the suggestion John. Thought to try that, but Iberia apparently won’t let us buy anything — without having an active account. (e.g., with points in it to start with)

Your tip prompted me to log on and try again. Error received:

“We are sorry to inform you that this service is not available.”

IMO the cheapest (though perhaps not the most straightforward) alternative to transferring in for Avios transfer activations is IberiaPluStore.

https://ibplustore.iberia.com/es/

Buy a $5 eGC on ebay.es or something along those lines. I haven’t seen DoC post about this particular method (or Avios interprogram transfers for that matter), although I believe it was mentioned elsewhere.
