Apple Card Users Can Enroll To Skip Their Upcoming Monthly Payment

[Update 6/1/20: They continue to extend this offer through May, and now through June. You must, however, file a request to skip the payment; if you simply fail to pay without officially requesting the skip, you’ll be charged. (hat tip 9to5mac.com)]

[Update 4/1/20: They are making the same offer for April as well, and, apparently, one can even request the deferral for a second time, even if you already requested this in March.]

Apple Card sent out an email to users allowing them to enroll in Apple Card’s Customer Assistance Program to skip their upcoming monthly credit card payment. No interest or fees will be accrued when doing so, according to the email. Essentially you can pay this month and next month together when the next month’s statement generates, giving you an extra month leeway.

This is a nice gesture from Apple as there are certainly some non-salaried workers who aren’t getting paid now, as well as business owners who aren’t making any money now. This gives them time to come up with the necessary funds.

You can see what the offer email looks like here and the confirmation email here.

I wish more banks/card issuers had an online option for these things – most of them require you to call in (at a time when nearly every customer is stuck at home with enough time on their hands calling in for one reason or the other – mortgages, credit cards, auto loans etc)

Bank of America not nearly as generous. For enrolled cards: “Interest charges or applicable fees will continue to accrue and be added to your balance. However, if a Late Fee in connection with these payment deferrals is assessed, it will be refunded without additional action required on your part.”

I just need Amex and Fidelity to do this.

Is this just waiving interest + late fees, or are they actually setting the minimum payment on the bill to $0?

If it’s the former, do expect to get a note on the credit report, and you definitely do not want that.

This is nice. I wish Amex did that.

Only when pigs fly. AmEx and being generous doesn’t go hand in hand

How does skipping a payment help. Balance grows bigger…….

I must live 😂 in a different universe 😉 than most.

Interest not added so that’s a Relief. But still wait till people stop paying before you panic. People need to pay up.

Too many ❄️. Grow up people.

Is Vanguard going to boost my 501k?

We are in this together, which means you need to sink and i need to survive.

We have been in this together for last 20 years. Ask the politicians.

Know how everyone knows you didn’t actually read the article?

I admit I peruse.

I’m confused: are you trying to say you skim or read carefully? Because peruse means the latter, though it does get used as if meaning the former. (I admit I used to think it meant the former until I looked it up.)

I confess, I think you should parse more and peruse less.

You give them too much credit. They clearly does not know what the word means. Using words they do not know the meaning of to sound smarter than they are,

More like the benefit of the doubt. At first I thought as you did that they meant a quick read, but since it wasn’t the OP responding and they were doing so to a message pointing out that the OP hadn’t read carefully, I thought they might be rubbing it in the OP’s nose and somewhat hautily announcing they take the time to thoroughly read what’s written: “I admit I peruse” (unlike the OP, who does not). 😉
