Au Bon Pain: Free Travel Mug

Not entirely sure if this ever went away,  but it’s now being offered again.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Au Bon Pain is offering a free travel mug when you enter your personal details (they send you a coupon via e-mail that then has to be redeemed in store)

Our Verdict

Not exactly the biggest freebie going around, but it is free. I’m a big fan of these travel mugs, they are better for the environment long term and generally keep coffee hotter for longer. Downside to this one is obviously the au bon pain branding, but if that’s your go to coffee place or you brew at home then it shouldn’t be an issue. Also yes I know this isn’t free because you’re giving up your personal information, when we talk about free on the blog we are only talking about the monetary cost. 11

Does their site verify my pet’s “personal” details?

They don’t accept VoIP numbers. I don’t have any other number.

Why give any number at all?

Fortunately, the phone number is an optional field. Pro tip: that’s what those little stars mean. : )

They also didn’t accept my real phone number, before I realized the field was optional. I think it’s just sloppy coding.

It’s not just the fields you voluntarily give. If you go through a portal you are agreeing to share your information with the portal.

I went through befruga ONCE l and started receiving mail from them. Never shared my address with them.

Does anybody know if the apps on smartphone share your phone # with app provider? I.e how does the app provider aggregate the data?

These free travel mugs are worth about as much as you pay for them. They have almost no insulation and thus your drink cools down very quickly.

Trust me, its worth it to spend $25 on a Zojirushi travel mug. Amazing insulation, leakproof, and will last forever.

Agreed, Zojirushi is the best! 🙂

Teflon interior makes it a no-go for me. Stick with stainless steel.

Besides the free mug, I have received a coupon for free sandwich or salad on my birthday but they may or may not ask for ID (depends on the cashier). Also, I’ve gotten a coupon for free pastry + coffee on the anniversary of the date I signed up and they will send $1 or $2 off coupon for $7 purchase from time to time.

These free cups are typically plastic which really should never be used for hot drinks. Even for cold drinks plastic degrades over time and is a terrible choice.

I will fill it with Seven-Eleven latte, $1 with app.
