Bank of America & Starbucks Announce New Partnership (Earn 2% Cash Back + 1 Star Per $2 Spent)

Bank of America & Starbucks have announced a new partnership.

  • Cashback & Bonus Stars: Starting today, customers can earn 2% Cash Back on top of existing card benefits, and 1 Star per $2 spent at Starbucks when they link an eligible Bank of America debit or credit card with their Starbucks Rewards account at starbucks.com/bofa or Bofa.com/starbucks.

Will be interesting to see if Bank of America eventually launches a Starbucks cobranded card.

I want to know that as well. Starbucks has a promo right now for 100 stars if you reload $20 via Apple Pay.

The offer is appearing in my BoA account now. I’m confused, though, by this sentence: “If a merchant processes your order in separate transactions, you’ll only earn cash back value on the first transaction.” That seems to run counter to the idea that this is an ongoing deal in which all purchases made through the Starbcucks app with an enrolled BoA card qualify.

I will continue to occasionally buy SBUX giftcards at office supply stores with my Ink Cash and load them into my account. 5X UR, whatever SBUX stars, and a Delta mile … seems good enough to me.

In the fine print it mentioned debit and non rewards credit cards, so it seems you can only get the cash back with a non rewards card.

It just said that those cards will only get 2% back. It also said the 2% is in addition to regular cash back you get with rewards cards.

That’s not what I see. In footnote 3, it says, in part, “Most Bank of America consumer and small business debit and credit cards and Merrill Lynch® credit cards (“Bank of America® or Merrill Lynch® Card”) are eligible for this offer except ATM-only cards, Credit Purchasing Card (P-Card), Travel/Corporate Card, Fleet Card, Prepaid Payroll & Incentive Card, all healthcare account products – HSA/FSA Health Reimbursement/Flexible Spending, HELOC – Home Equity Line of Credit accounts, Small Business employee cards, non-profits & corporate liability card holders and Merrill Lynch CMA deferred debit cards. This list is subject to change at any time.”

Cash Back Offer: Linked Card members will earn 2% Cash Back on the full purchase price of every Qualifying Purchase and other Starbucks products purchased in the same transaction at Participating Starbucks Stores. 2% Cash Back is in addition to any base rewards earned from credit card account rewards programs. Debit and non-rewards credit cards will earn 2% Cash Back

Sorry I misread the last sentence lol

I checked my Bank of America Deals but don’t see this Starbucks deal listed. Anyone else?

I don’t have it either. I logged out and logged back in repeatedly, both from the main BoA login page and also from the link in my Starbucks account. I see no way to sign up for this. Maybe it’ll appear in a day or two?

It was listed on all 3 of my cards. The Alaska Airlines, Travel Rewards and Air France cards. Seems to indicate that I’ll get 2% cash back on top of my regular rewards for those cards. Linked my accounts and then added each card to Starbucks. Loaded $10 per card as a test and was credited 5 stars from Starbucks instantly (.5/$)…still waiting on the cash back or regular rewards on top of that.

Same. I have BofA Cash Rewards and it’s not in my offers.

I see it. My only BofA cards are a personal and business AS Visa.

I checked again this morning and it is now there. Did a $10 reload and got 5 bonus stars, was assuming that I would 10 stars for the purchase plus the additional 5 stars for a total of 15.

I believe you’ll get the 10 stars when you use the stored value in the gift card.

I don’t get it. Normally you get 2 stars per $1 spent if using Starbucks gift card, or 1 star per $1 spent if using any other card. Why would I use a BofA card that gives me 1 star for every $2 spent?

Yeah it’s like a benefit that’s not really a benefit. The only good thing is if you’re someone who doesn’t want to reload your account and instead pay directly with a card on the app you can still get the 2 stars if you use a BoA card now.

No. It’s an ADDITIONAL 1 star per 2 dollars spent bonus,
On top of the 2 stars per dollar. So you get 2.5 stars/dollar now plus 2 pct ADDITIONAL cash back

Would be curious to see the earning rate of a Customized Rewards Card set to restaurant with Platinum Honors.

Could be online category and load your Starbucks card through the app.

Trying to understand if this is better than what I currently do which is to use my Citi Premier card to earn 3 miles/$ on Starbucks reloads and then 2 stars/$ for purchases through the app. If I use to BofA custom cash card and choose dining as my category, it seems like this will get you 5% cash back + 2.5 stars/$. Is that right? Also this stacks with Delta / Starbucks partnership as well, right?

Does this stack with preferred rewards?

If not, I’d rather not do any of these, 5.25% cash is way better than 2% + 0.5x stars.

Of course it stacks. Why wouldn’t it?

The Shell rewards partnership didn’t stack, that’s why.

According to the terms, it stacks with base rewards. No mention of category/preferred bonus so who knows…
