Update: These cards have now launched, in total they launched three cards and you can view our review of these cards at the following link: Titanium, Black & Gold.
Earlier today we posted details about the new Luxury Card Blackcard which is issued by Barclaycard (they really need to stop using the word card so much). One thing that I found interesting was the following (emphasis mine):
We have some exciting news—we’ve changed our brand name from Black Card to Luxury Card. Luxury Card is a new premium global card platform bringing Cardmembers exceptional value and unparalleled benefits. Luxury Card will be launching additional credit card products in the coming months.
Honestly if the cards are as bad as the new Blackcard, then I’m very unexcited. My hope is that they will be launching a real premium card that can actually compete with the Citi Prestige/American Express Platinum and are just planning on leaving existing Blackcard cardholders somewhat stranded with an inferior product, somehow I think that’s unlikely and what we’ll probably see is a card in the $95 annual fee range that will attempt to compete with Chase Sapphire Preferred/Citi Premier card or possibly something in the $200 range that would go up against the American Express Premier Rewards Gold.
If that’s the case then you’d think it would be a flexible point card, Barclaycard has the following partners:
- Wyndham Hotels
- Hawaiian Airlines
- Choice Hotels
- Frontier Airlines
- Lufthansa Airlines
They’ll also be adding JetBlue to that list next year. If they could add some other transfer partners that don’t have co-branded relationships with other banks (e.g Singapore) then you’d think it would at least be a semi decent option assuming the earning rates/sign up bonuses are good.
ROFL! Whoever apps for this card needs to be beaten and removed from the human civilization due to a lack of common sense.
