BBVA Compass No Longer Accepting Applications For NBA 5% Card

BBVA Compass offers an NBA credit card that earns 5% cash back on all purchases during the all star weekend and two weeks NBA Finals. When they added a $5,000 spending cap per event in April of last year they removed online applications from their website and made it so you needed to apply for it through http://ecredable.com/. At some stage that option was removed and it became only available via in branch application.

It’s also possible that NBA wants to partner with another bank, but this is a wait and see sort of thing.

Can anyone confirm the dates for the All-Star weekend and Finals spending periods for 2017? Called in, but the rep said the dates are the same as published by the NBA and depend on how many games are played…but I thought the dates were pre-fixed by BBVA?

Last time they sent out an email. I’ll try to see if I can verify more.

Are they still running 5x for the upcoming all star?

Apparently BofA AAA Member Rewards card is also gone. I don’t see the US Bank replacement either.

At an availability age of roughly 19 months, would the BBVA NBA card be the shortest lived nationally available credit card of recent memory?

So far Southwest nerfed CP earning, Chase is cutting the bonus on CSR, another round of Serve shutdowns, and the 5% NBA card is probably dead. Regardless of whether or not any of this was expected, so far 2017 is making 2016 look mild in comparison.
