Best iPhone SE (Newest – 2nd Generation) Preorder Deals

The iPhone SE was recently announced, I thought it might be useful to some readers to create a dedicated page for pre order deals. Standard price is $399.

If anybody sees any other deals worth adding, let me know in the comments below. Fingers crossed Amazon comes out with a good deal as well.

Be cautious on the BestBuy iPhone if you can going to use them when you travel overseas. It is not completely “unlocked”, it is so called “Universal”, which means it locks to which ever carrier when you insert the first SIM card…

I’m not doing this deal but the Walmart deal is really nice for current AT&T and Verizon customers. No trade-in needed and you don’t have to get a new line. All of the recent Verizon deals have required trades and new lines to get the best deal. I got a new line and ported my existing number to and from Google Voice in order to get a deal recently on the Samsung S10.

Got myself one as a verizon customer. My 6s 128gb should go for at least $125. Will be a nice upgrade for roughly $100.

A minimal savings, but during this challenging time may be helpful. If you go the Apple Store route and work for an organization that has some discount site benefit, check if you qualify for the Apple EPP discount, since you can get $8 off; $21 from pro, $15 from 11, etc.

I wish Apple had offered an increased trade-in deals though, in particular for iPhone 8/7/6s/6 owners, as it is rather an iPhone 8s than SE 2. I have extended family members that prefer a physical home button

I don’t really even understand what Apple is doing here. It’s basically an iPhone 8 with slightly better processor.

Should have kept the 4″ screen, then I’d be interested

Slightly? And there’s barely anyone that wants a 4 inch screen anymore. They’re out to sell services, not cater to niche consumers such as yourself. Note that I said sell services in this case, not devices. I wouldn’t be surprised if they took a loss on this phone as a way to lock people into their ecosystem. There’s no other way to justify these specs with this price tag. I have a Pixel 3a and the one thing I really wish it had was an IP rating because I work in construction. I would also like wireless charging too. This has both. For the same price. They’re looking to convert users to Apple and they’re giving a strong case for it but making money on the device is not in the cards with this strategy

Who’s they?

Because apple sells phones not service… they’re not looking to lock anyone in to anything. They’re out to make a profit selling devices

Apple is shifting their business to more service oriented. They offer Apple Arcade, Apple Music, Apple news, iCloud, and not to mention their streaming service Apple TV+. All these require subscriptions which is what they want to get people locked into. Then they sell you the Apple Card in the virtual wallet. All they need is you to buy the phone to get all these.

I’m all for them drifting to a more amazon kindle fire like platform if it makes the devices cheaper. The only pay service I use is 99 cents a month for extra storage 👍

If I’m not mistaken they offer Apple+ free for a year with the purchase of any new phone after September 2019. I’ll definitely be trying it out but I’m not their targeted consumer who’s willing to pay for apps and services.

The thing is, they ARE selling services. Apple Music, Apple TV+, iTunes, iCloud (extra storage), Apple Arcade, and, of course, the app store.

All of which are already available on the current iPhones you own. You give them too much credit.

They aren’t losing money selling this phone. It cost them nothing to R&D and they are using left over iPhone 8 parts and swapped out the a11 for an a13.

Apple is frankly just being lazy here and dangling an old iPhone 8 with a shiny new marketing string attached knowing people are dumb enough to fall for it.

Honestly it’s been their marketing strategy for years. Every “great feature” they ever came out with was invented by Google several years prior.

This phone is a joke IMO

….. Unless you’re not an iPhone owner. They get to sell you their services if you switch. This is just the tip. If you’ve ever played that game in high school, you know how that always turns out.

Come on, do you honestly think they’re gonna grab a bunch of new iPhone users with this?

Be honest with yourself.

There’s been affordable iPhone 8s and the like around for awhile. Why would anyone now decide to switch because of this phone?

They wouldn’t….

Apple is just making a cash grab at suckers. Again, no R&D, no new parts. Easy 💰 for them.

Again that’s just my opinion.

I guess everyone can believe what they want

Well for one you get a minimum 5 years software support and you also get portrait mode on the camera which is not available on the iphone 8 unless you get the 8 Plus. I debated upgrading from the 6s to a refurbished 8 but at $220 minimum on ebay or $349 new at Walmart for Straighttalk it didn’t make sense so I took their trade-in offer of $80 and upgraded to the SE.

Wow I guess everyone has their reasons. I can’t imagine using the same phone for 5 years or even close to that and couldn’t care less about portrait mode. I would never buy a phone for those 2 reasons.

I’ve had the se and the 8 as well as 2 Androids over the last 5 or 6 years. Personally I am intrigued by Motorola’s new high end coming out the edge+ being debuted next week. Always like Motorola’s software, but their hardware has sucked the last 4 years. For now holding on to my 8.

I personally don’t care to own a phone for 4.5-5 years either but my wife does and wanted better picture quality for our kids and she’s owned her 6s for 4.5 years so running the math it works out to $80 per year. The downside to android is you don’t get as many years of support which makes users upgrade more frequently. I don’t mind the 4.7″ screen size the SE offers but I guess some people love the gigantic phones. Personally, I bought a new 6s last year for $149 and I’ll churn it into something else by September 2021 when the old models get cheaper. Not sure what else to do other than upgrade to brand new old models or cheaper refurbished more current models.

-Current gen 1 SE owner.
-The iPhone 8 has been out for 2-3 years, and a new iPhone 8 was not as cheap as this model, thus the cost of ownership per year will be higher for the 8 than it will be for this phone.
-This has a newer processor than the 8.
-The phone caters to the demographic such as myself that are looking for a no muss no fuss, low cost of ownership per year device. I will be buying this and hanging onto it until the iOS updates are EOLed for the device (likely 5 years.)

“Slightly better processor” is doing a lot of work here. It’s the fastest chip available on the entire phone market in a $400 phone. That’s the entire selling point and anyone wishing for their personal preferences is missing the point. The market for this will be huge: People who want to buy one relatively inexpensive phone every 4 or 5 years and not have to worry about it again. A processor that will still be able to cut it half a decade from now is the *key* ingredient.

I really don’t understand your gripe. Screen size aside, you get a phone with almost all the same features as the 11 for about 1/2 the price. Sure, the camera and screen are not quite as good and it lacks FaceID/a better front camera and RAM is slightly decreased (rumoured)…however, for what it is, the SE (2nd Generation) is a great iPhone for $400. You get the cellular/WiFi tech and processor of the latest generation of iPhones (11 series) – arguably the most important aspects of a smartphone.

I think the argument that Apple was selling the 8 at $450 falls flat because they were not doing that when it was new…and when they started it was already a generation or two old. To get a current-generation phone (and I guess by generation, I am referring to processor mainly – because that is what is most indicative of capability in terms of software updates, etc.), for $400 is great.
