Best Posts This Week: AmEx Loses Two Partnerships, Increased Sign Up Bonuses, $100 Statement Credit & Discounted Giftcards

This was a bad week for American Express, we found an ad from Barclaycard showing that they are hiring for a marketing manager of the JetBlue card. Confirming that American Express has lost that partnership and Barclaycard will replace them as the co-branded card issuing company. American Express will also lose their partnership with Costco, they will no longer be the payment network in store and they also will not issue the co-branded credit cards.

The sign up bonus on the Chase Ritz Carlton card is no longer 140,000 points and they are tightening what counts for the $300 annual airline credit. Although Chase have increased the sign up bonus on the Marriott Premier to 70,000 points + a free night certificate. They also increased the sign up bonus to 18,000 points on the Amtrak card and 60,000 points on the ink plus card.

There was good news for American Express business platinum customers, you can get 10 free Gogo inflight passes now. You should also be able to get a $100 statement credit by trying to use your Regus Platinum benefit, which is going away in May.

In other credit card news, it might be worth applying for Capital One cards even if they do pull all three credit bureas. Chuck shared his reasons as to why these cards are now on his radar screen. Barclaycard also increased the sign up bonus on the Upromise card to $100, this is worth a look because it earns at a higher rate on portal purchases.

If you purchase Visa gift cards online (especially the $500 varieties), then you need to read this post by Chuck, he assesses your different options and also gives you a tip to save money on each purchase.
