[CA only] Wescom Credit Union Bruin Edge Visa $500 Bonus

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Wescom Credit Union is offering a bonus of $500 after $2,500 in spend within the first three months on the Bruin Edge Visa card

Card Details

  • No annual fee
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5 points per $1 spent on select UCLA Purchases
    • 1.5 points per $1 spent

Our Verdict

This is obviously a huge bonus by itself, but Wescom also has a $250 checking bonus and you can get an additional $250 when you qualify for a loan product. It’s not clear if you could effectively stack that with this $500 bonus and get a total of $1,000. Either way just this bonus by itself is a great deal and we will add it to the best credit card bonuses. Obviously we have no idea how strict they are on approvals or any of that other information so please share your experiences in the comments below.

They are changing their fee structure on Jan 1st. Looks like the checking account will be fee-free, although I am not 100% sure – too many tiers and too much small print to parse.

Got approved for 5K limit today. Can’t pass up the 1K in total bonuses when I joined in Sept.

Approved as an existing member that previously had a secured credit card with them, 762 Experian from earlier in the day denied Citi application

Applied this afternoon via a pre-approval (I’m a UCLA Alumni Assoc. life member, probably got that offer from cross-promotion). Instant approval for the CL/APR terms in the pre-approval.

Annoying/bad news: The credit card account seems to have created a separate membership from the checking/savings accounts that I created earlier this week for the $500 + $250 bonus. I’ll probably have to call in at some point to deal wit that.

Good news. So far, no hard pull on any of the 3 bureaus. Under the ‘your credit score’ portion of the post-approval notices, it stated that my score wasn’t available from Experian. We’ll see if they try pulling my report later.

Received my points today. I went to pay my first statement and realized that they make it incredibly difficult to pay your statement. If you were planning on keeping this account, you may want to take this into consideration.

You cannot directly pay your credit card balance from an external institution. You must schedule an ACH from your external account to the Wescom Savings Account and then pay the credit card from there. Additionally, there is a maximum per-day transfer of $1000… so a $2500 balance will take three separate transfers to get into your Wescom account and then another payment from there. Not a great system.

I agree, really annoying that we cant pay the card directly. I will try bill pay from my checking account.

try adding it as bill pay from other banks, For P2 I am able to pay easily from provident credit union- payment posts the next day.

You can pay directly from other banks via a Bill Pay as you do with any other CC. No that big of a deal, I have to do the same with my BofA cards. And I like that you can transfer the reward points directly to your Wescom bank accounts.

Anybody got the 50,000 pts bonus already ? My first statement closed with the spending requirements met, but not bonus yet.

When you funded Wescom checking account with US Bank Visa, did you receive expected points for that “purchase” and/or did it count towards minimum spend for card sign-up bonus?

Was your US Bank Visa cash advance limit set below Wescom funding amount as precaution against cash advance fees—or you just took your chances?

Palos Verdes Prince All I know is that it posted as purchase, I did not do anything special. Waiting for a US bank statement to close to see if it will count towards the spend.

The US bank had no issues with my spend. Still no Wescom bonus though. Their T&C are weird and do not specify the time-frame for the bonus to post. I am hoping they will be processing them in batches as they do with checking bonuses.

Did your points ever post? I hit spend on 8/2, statement posted 8/24, paid off balance 8/26 with no points yet.

P1 got bonus fairly quickly. About 3 days after statement closed. P2 is taking a lot longer. Like you statement closed, paid balance but no points yet.

Hi, Has anyone stack the bonuses successfully for $500.00 Bruin Edge Visa bonus with New Members Get Up to $500 (checking + CC) for total of $1,000 bonus? Do I use “Welcome” code for the checking + CC bonus and then apply separately for the CC with no codes?
Thanks in advance,

That is what I did. There is actually no other way to apply. Keep in mind that lately they are rejecting a lot of CC applicants.

Yes. This is exactly what I did. Use the code to open the checking account/savings first. Then open the Bruin Edge. You will fully qualify for the $500 checking bonus + $500 points

Applied today, pulled Experian not Equifax.

Terri

DP- Denied. Experian is LOL/12, might have been approved if they pulled Equifax. We opened two checking accounts in the Corona branch (P1 & P2), and applied for CC at same time. We were called a few hours later by the same bank rep and told of denial.

Declined for cc: “Too Many Recent Credit Inquiries, Too Many Revolving Accounts.”
