[CA only] Wescom Credit Union Bruin Edge Visa $500 Bonus

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Wescom Credit Union is offering a bonus of $500 after $2,500 in spend within the first three months on the Bruin Edge Visa card

Card Details

  • No annual fee
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5 points per $1 spent on select UCLA Purchases
    • 1.5 points per $1 spent

Our Verdict

This is obviously a huge bonus by itself, but Wescom also has a $250 checking bonus and you can get an additional $250 when you qualify for a loan product. It’s not clear if you could effectively stack that with this $500 bonus and get a total of $1,000. Either way just this bonus by itself is a great deal and we will add it to the best credit card bonuses. Obviously we have no idea how strict they are on approvals or any of that other information so please share your experiences in the comments below.

Hey what is the membership fee for becoming an alumni supporter or is it possible to avoid it

Unnecessary to get the card.

Got my bonus points. Redemption is a little odd. You need to choose which purchase to apply your points to, and hopefully you have purchases that add up to your bonus points pretty closely. Also, all my purchases werent there to be redeemed against. Maybe only these are eligible? founds this on rewards website.

Is there a way to become a member/ apply for a cc as a California resident but outside of their footprint?

4/18 – Applied online and approved instantly for CC. Membership went pending. Called in to get it pushed through. In state but not in the Los Angeles area.

New CC Accounts – 2/24. Pulled Experian.
Chex – LOL/24. Not sure about Chex sensitivity like other DPs suggest.

So after a year, does the credit union bill be $1 or something for the UCLA membership, or will my account just get closed if I don’t pay?

***CHEX Sensitive 3/12 for the credit card, but out of state no problem***
Applied out of state, was approved instantly for 15k, but was pending membership approval for the CU.
Next day was declined, called and they stated if 3+ Chex Inquiries in 12mo they decline CU membership.
So, despite them wanting to give me a 15k CL, they denied it because I’m too bad a risk for a savings account based on CHEX.
Hope this saves ppl inquiries. I am like 9/24 (using Chase rules) and had no problem getting approved despite that, just the CHEX inquiries.

If you go into the branch, you’ll bypass that. I’m LOL/24 in chex

Looks like the deal is dead.

Nevermind, I found it. The link defaults to a different card, had to scroll sideways to find it.

Approved today. In California but outside their footprint. Checked that I’m a UCLA supporter. Wescom then pays the first year of membership in the UCLA Alumni Association to qualify for membership in the CU.

I called to ask whether my card could be expedited and the CSR said no, but that it could be added immediately to Apple Pay, which hadn’t occurred to me. She actually called another CSR to “fund” my new credit union membership which then completed my eligibility….and called me back to say it had been done, and what I needed to do next…download app, sign up on app, etc.. Did add to Apple Pay immediately….hoping that the oral surgeon accepts Apple Pay…I’ll meet the $2,500 spend in one visit 🙁

I cannot remember ANY bank customer service better than what I received today from Wescom…it should be the norm but it’s not.

Hi, Does anyone know if members of the same household can apply for the card and still get the bonus? Also, I intend to do the Refer A Friend (RAF) program. Has anyone tried RAF and succeeded?
Does WESCOM have these offers every year? Trying to decide if we should wait.
Thanks.
