I know it is an old thread.. but may be somebody knows the answer.

Apparently Hilton has both “points pooling” and “1-to- transfer”. Any benefits for one over another?
In case of points pooling do they (points) still have any link to the “old” (pooled from) account, and hence may expire with that old account, or they are practically transferred to the “new” one?

Thank you in advance big time!

Transfer was instantaneous. Great tip here — thanks Will!

Hope this isn’t another omen that points are about to get devalued. Maybe best to use them sooner than later?

One thing that wasn’t clear to me…

Points pooling is done in multiples of 1,000 also. So there is no getting rid of your leftover 587 points in your account.

587 points is literally like $3.60 in value, so I wouldn’t sweat anything less than 1000 that stays in your account.

I have tried this on different browsers throughout the day and after I click on the Pool link, the website errors out.

I actually think it’s “worth” a little less than $3.60 personally (I value HH at ~0.4cpp). BUT points at the margin, i.e. close to an award category are “worth” a lot more.

If I had 39,400 points I don’t have enough for a 40k/nt award, so my points are not worth that much too me. If my SO had 600 pts left in her account (AND pts could be transferred in ANY denomination), those 600 points are “worth” a lot more than $3.60.

So if a family member signs up for the 80K or 100K cards and earns the bonus, can they transfer their points to me and then let their account expire?

That is my question as well. Mom has points in her account, so if I pool them with mine and she has no activity, will those points now not expire as long as I have activity?

This part is a little confusing:

“Can pool a minimum of 1,000 points and a maximum of 500,000 points per calendar year.
Each member can receive a maximum of 2,000,000 points per calendar year.”

…but if I’m understanding it correctly, it basically means that I can send 500,000 per year from my account, but I can receive 2,000,000 from others. Seems odd but hey, they are finally letting you pool points for free. Something I wish everyone else would do… I’m looking at you, Southwest!

Just transferred my wifes points into my account (I have Diamond status) and process took 5min. Points already posted to my account. Awesome feature!

One thing the FAQ doesn’t address is point expiration. As I recall, as long as the account remains active, then the points should remain active. I wonder if pooling would be considered activity, and keep the points active.
