SavorOne seems like an ALRIGHT card if the student spends predominantly on groceries. Otherwise, as someone mentioned below, the BofA student cash card is probably a better choice for versatility. For that, you’re losing out slightly with the 2% on grocery vs. 3% on the SavorOne. However, there’s the added versatility with 3% on various categories to pick from (including dining). Or options for 3% categories like gas (those commuting to school) or online shopping also seem to be more beneficial depending on the student.

Regarding the Quicksilver student card, I’d see zero benefit of suggesting that over other cards targeted for students. Personally, if a student wanted a flat-rate card I’d think that the Sallie Mae “Accelerate” would be a better option. With that, you’d get the same 1.5% CB, or if the cashback was used to pay off student loans, it becomes worth 2% CB redemption. Plus with this particular card there’s a $200 SUB ($1,000 MSR), 0% APR for 15 months, & cellphone protection with a $50 deductible. That being said, I’m not sure how easy they are with approving students compared to CapitalOne or other lenders. Either way, just some additional options that some might find helpful.

Are you able to get the student and the main variant of a card?

Discover it card and the Bank of America cash rewards student card is still better. Plus Capital one pulls all three bureaus. Not worth it

To be fair, that may actually be a benefit to you if you have a thin file. The SavorOne earn structure could be preferable to Discover it for some people.

No, having 3 pulls instead of 1 has absolutely no benefit.

Both Discover and BofA reports to all 3 bureaus regardless that they only pull one.

How many Capital One Credit Cards can one person have?
I already have 4 Capital One personal Credit Cards, 2 of them are Quicksilver.
Can I open my third Quicksilver card and earn the $200 bonus after $500 spending?

Thank you very much!

They used to have something in the terms saying “you are not eligible for this offer if I have two/four or more open capital one cards open”. This has now been removed so not sure if this still applies or not.

Probably just a way for them to exclude students from getting sign up bonuses. I guess creating the “one” flavors of cards to strip the bonuses from marginally qualified people wasn’t enough.

A bit of a disappointment that they will still pull all three bureaus, but this is still good to have.

I’d probably still recommend the Discover It though, $50 SUB and 2/10% for the first year with only one bureau pull just feels like the better option.
