Our Verdict
We discussed the details of this new card in this post. It’s worth reading this FAQ follow-up post as well. And you can click this link to view all of our many recent Freedom Flex posts.
We’re operating under the assumption that 5/24 does apply to this card unless we hear otherwise. Check out all these Things To Know About Chase Credit Cards before applying.
If you are under 5/24, it could make sense to apply for this card directly instead of product changing in order to get the nice signup bonus offer. We don’t know how long the signup bonus will last (it’s typically just the $200, with the 5% grocery being a temporary addition). I’d guess it’ll be for at least a few weeks or longer given that it’s being promoted as the card launch offer.
The Chase Freedom Visa 5% card is still available as of today, though it’s expected to be gone tomorrow. (See this post where we discuss whether it makes sense to signup for that card or for the new version.)
If you do apply and get approved today (9/14), be sure to immediately activate the Q3 2020 5% categories since those need to be activated by the 14th 15th. You’ll then have through the end of the month to try maxing out the category which is Amazon and Whole Foods.
