Chase Freedom Flex Now Live For Product Changes (Working From Sapphire, Slate, CFU)

Product changes to the Chase Freedom Flex card are now live, as they were expected to go live on the 13th. Applications to apply for a new Freedom Flex card are expected to go live tomorrow, the 14th.

Also, readers were able to product change the Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Preferred, Freedom Unlimited, Slate, and the no-fee Sapphire to become a Freedom Flex card. It’s probably possible that Sapphire Reserve, Slate, and Freedom Unlimited cards will also work now to be changed to become the Freedom Flex card.

According to the media team, it was only supposed to be possible to change a Freedom card to Freedom Flex, not Sapphire or Unlimited cards. My guess is that the media team wasn’t giving information based on how it’ll actually work on the ground, and – in practice – we will be able to product change those cards to Flex. However, it’s equally possible that this is just a Day #1 exception, and that on the 15th or beyond it will stop being possible. Also plausible that the no-fee Sapphire is able to be changed to Flex while other Sapphire cards are not.

Please let us know your experiences in the comments.

For existing customers who want to “product change”, there is no web link. You call the number at the back of the card, press 0 to speak to a rep, tell them you want to product change, they will read out the disclosures, you give you approval for the change, and your credit history et all gets transferred lock, stock, and barrel. You will get a new number credit card number, and PIN because it is a change from VISA to the World Elite Mastercard. They said the change would take 3 to 5 days but almost instaneously, after I logged on to Chase online, I can see the last 4 digits of the new card number (but not all the digits).

I just called Chase and was unable to switch my freedom to freedom flex. He had no idea what I was talking about, said I couldn’t change a visa to a mastercard. He said my only option is to apply, which I may do to get that 3% dining. I don’t know if I just got a bad rep, but I’m not calling back today.

Data Point: I was able to product change my CSR to CF Visa (Ultimate Rewards card is what they called it) on Sept 22. My options were Chase Sapphire, CFU, or CF, they did not offer the CFF but I want that sign up bonus so I was fine with that.

Are you positive when they mentioned the CF that they didn’t mean the CFF? It would be odd for them to leave that out as an option.

Hmm, they didn’t discontinue the CF?

Have any of you received your CFF in the mail yet?

Curious on what others might say regarding my situation.
Have 5 Chase cards currently: CSP (oldest line of credit), IGH, Hyatt, Freedom, Freedom Unlimited

I’d like to product change my CSP to the new Flex card.
The reason being to maintain that history and so that I can eventually sign up for CSR and get that bonus.

1) It already sounds like doing a product change from CSP to Flex won’t be a problem. Will this be possible with no questions asked being that I already have other no fee cards like the Freedom and Freedom Unlimited?
2) Can I eventually apply for a 6th active Chase Card, the CSR? Or would I need to maybe close the Freedom first which would really be obsolete?

TIA!

Warning, some reddit DP from a Chase Rep says that you forfeit the rest of the 5% quarter that you product change in. So you lose the last two weeks of Amazon. Or if you PC in October, you lose the entire paypal/Walmart quarter. No matter if you activated the category before or after the PC. You will lose the category bonus for future purchases if you PC during that same quarter.

So plan accordingly (max out quarter if able before you PC). Ideal PC if you haven’t maxed out Amazon yet is end of September.

Can I still PC CSR to Freedom after 9.14? My CSR was upgraded early this year, not sure if I need to keep it for one year to be able to downgrade. Thanks!

as long as you’re not in the first year of opening a card, you can PC at any time.

If I have the Chase Freedom Unlimited, will I automatically get the upgraded cashbacks for travel, dining, and drugstores on top of the 1.5% for all other?

When you complete a PC to a CFF you get a new card number. I assume that this will NOT be counted as a new account for purposes of 5/24. Any thoughts on that?

Just called in now to change from Freedom to Freedom Flex. The customer service representative knew exactly what card I was talking about and quickly changed the card. The new Freedom Flex is already showing up on my online account portal. I will now have a Freedom and Freedom Flex.
