    • United:

The Fine Print

  • Valid from October 1st until December 31st, 2018
  • Requires activation by December 31st, 2018

Our Verdict

Basically an extra 0.5 points per $1 spent if you spend exactly $4,000. Given the earning rates on this card this it not an attractive offer at all. Although it might be useful for those trying to hit $15,000 in spend for the free night certificate.

When you log into your account, click the menu bar in the upper left, then navigate to Profile & Settings -> Marketing Preferences. On the resulting page, you’ll see the option for “Special Offers from Chase.” Make sure you’ve selected “Yes.”

Thank you! At some point I opted out, probably years before churning. Hopefully I’ll start getting these types of targeted emails.

I hope you’re luckier than me. I opted in about six months ago (must have opted out years ago as well) and have gotten two marketing emails since.

As I mentioned in the Reddit thread, I do think the offer may have some utility if you’re planning to MS your way to exactly $15k in spend on the WoH card for the free night.

If you value the free night at a Cat. 4 as worth 15,000 bonus points (a debatable point, since the free nights are time-limited and not usually convertible to points), then you could argue that by spending exactly $15k, you’re already getting 2x Hyatt points on non-category spending in a particularly valuable points currency. You could then make the case that this offer would further boost $4,000 of that $15k to 2.5x on non-category spending. Not bad.

How this can be good? spend 4000 on CFU then still get 6k points then transfer to hyatt. needless to say if you spend less than 4000 still get 1.5x.

As I stated above, it’s only good IF you’re planning to spend or MS $15k to get the Hyatt free night.

Assuming you do that, you will get 15,000 Hyatt points plus a free night at (up to) a Category 4 hotel, which goes for 15,000 points. Therefore, you would earn the equivalent of 30,000 points off of $15,000 in spending, which amounts to a 2x return on non-category spend. That alone is a better return than the 1.5x you get on the CFU, albeit without the flexibility and transferability of Ultimate Rewards points.

If you’re already doing the above for the free night, then this bonus essentially elevates your 2x return to 2.5x for $4,000 of the $15,000 you were going to spend anyway for the free night.

In total, you would receive the equivalent of 32,000 Hyatt points on $15k spend, a 2.13x return.

Not a bad deal for people who are MSing anyways to earn night credits toward status.

This is very meh. Most of us has a UR(annual fee) + CFU combo. Just use the CFU and transfer points them, and no need to meet $4k.Unless you are spending 4k at hyatt hotels then this one might be good.

If you weren’t targeted would it be possible to message Chase and ask if you can get the offer added to your account?

Just got this on my SW RR Plus card. Does anyone know if Chase will post the points as soon as the $4K spend threshold is reached or only until after the promotional period (12/31)? The fine print seems to indicate the latter but it’d be nice to know… I’m in a race to earn a CP by year’s end.

“Congratulations – you’re registered

Cap, you’re now eligible to earn 2,500 bonus miles by spending $2,000 in purchases (not including returns) on your UnitedSM Explorer Card between October 1 and December 31, 2018.”

I clicked DoC’s United link in this post and got this offer after I input my United Mileage info. Nets me 2.25 United Miles per dollar. I’ll be all over this when United Portal offers the nice 3K bonus payouts in the coming months.
Thx Doc! #TeamDoC
