Does the CSR $300 “travel credit” apply when used to buy giftcards at a grocery store or gas station?

I need to know the same. I still have $300 of travel credit I need to use before the end of the year. What gift cards can I buy & if not at grocery store or gas station? What is the easiest way to buy a gift card that will count towards this travel credit?

App and website still showing 6/30/21. Any grocery DP in July that credit?

When I open the Chase app, it’s still showing 6/30/2021 as the last date Grocery & Gas would be credited as travel account.

Same question here… thinking of converting a Freedom card to this, to cash out some pretty significant UR balances, using 1.5x Pay Yourself Back benefit. Would like to make sure I will qualify for this extra $300 benefit.

This is a somewhat marginal benefit unless they pair it with 3x points earn on those groceries and gas spend…

Not paying the bill is a bonus all its own. If you frame it as being able to invest a month sooner, there’s at least a 0.5% effective benefit.
Also, credited gas and grocery spend earns base 1 UR, as opposed to travel earning 0 points for the first $300. Depending how you value UR vs MR or TYP and how much (or little) you traveled, that likely made AmEx Green or Citi Premier out-earn CSR on non-flight travel in the past 12 mo.
So, yes, marginal, but still a strong offering, and much better than buying some travel gift card because otherwise the credit just expires.

Does this also apply to the ritz card’s $300 credit?

Hope they include the ritz card in on that, but not so far.

FWIW my grocery “spend” earned 3x and the credit. Travel still seems to not earn points.

I did clarify this with Chase last fall when my travel credit reset. In a given card year with this active policy change, the first $300 of travel spend (even if you separately met the credit with groceries / gas spend) will not earn points.

In essence Chase wants to make sure you don’t earn the 900 points that you otherwise would get…

Man thanks for the info. You’re right, my subsequent travel didn’t count.

I also had a refund on travel and that did deduct 3x points I never earned in the first place. Gonna message them about that.
