Citi is continuing to make changes to their credit card line up, starting on November 15th there is one positive and one negative benefit change coming to the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select Card.
Positive
From November 15th onwards, you will no longer be charged any foreign transaction fees. Currently you pay a 3% fee.
Negative
Currently if you spend $30,000 or more in a single card member year on this card you receive a $100 American Airlines flight discount. This benefit will be removed on your card member anniversary date after November 15th, 2015.
This means if you’ve already planned to spend more than $30,000 within this card member year, you’ll still get the benefit but the following year you won’t.
Our Thoughts
I put both of these changes into the pile of “who really cares”. It’s nice to have foreign transaction fees removed and I don’t know of anybody that actually uses the $100 flight discount (because nobody spends $30,000+ on this card as it only earns one mile per dollar spent). So I guess this is a net benefit. What are your thoughts on these new changes? Let me know in the comments below.
