Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard – 40,000 Miles + $250 Statement Credit Offer

The Offer

Direct link to offer (if that doesn’t work, do a dummy booking and select any flight. You’ll see an option to upgrade to business and below that should be this offer). You can also trigger the same offer on the business card by clicking ‘are you a business owner’ in the top right corner

  • Earn 40,000 American Airline miles after $3,000 in spend within the first three months.
  • Earn up to $250 in statement credits on eligible American Airline purchases within the first 12 months

Card Details

Our Verdict

Standard bonus on this card is 60,000 miles (65,000 on the business card). This is a better offer as long as you value miles less than 1.25¢ per mile. You used to be able to get this lower mileage bonus and then match to 60,000 miles and still get the $250 statement credit but that hasn’t worked for a long time unfortunately. As always, read these things you need to know about Citi credit cards before applying.

The detail in this post “Not eligible if you’ve opened or closed…” is not accurate – actual terms state “not available if you have received a new account bonus … in the past 48 months.”

How can I redeem the bonus points as a cash back?

If anyone is wondering, gift cards trigger the statement credit.

William Charles seeing a best ever offer for 75K points + first year fee waived in the AA app, may be targeted, limited time offer ends in 28 days so should be good through 7/14

This card doesn’t not offer group 1 boarding. Should probably correct as that is old.

I miss the time when you can churn this card and get a open bonus match very ezily

Isn’t the standard bonus on this 50,000? The Barclay Aviator is 60K.

Unknown. In late summer 2021 we got one new one 3 years after close, another new one 6 months after close. (Two players) YMMV,

I see 50k on the app, annual fee waived first year, $2500 spend requirement, but no $250. Might be a better deal for some people.

I’d take 60k over this deal but I think 40k plus $250 is probably better than 50k for me, although I have no plans to travel on AA using anything but miles.

Does anyone know if the initial purchase will trigger the $250 SC? Looking to buy tickets now but no definite plans to use AA thereafter.

Will a seat upgrade trigger the credit?
