This rule is discussed in more detail here. Note the business card only cares if you’ve had the business card and the personal card cares about having/had the personal card. There is also a 60,000 mile offer on the personal card as well. Last time this bonus was offered it was actually possible to be matched to 75,000 miles, it’s also possible to get this bonus matched to 75,000 miles One of the issues people have had with American Airlines recently is the lack of saver award space, they have flagged this as something that will be fixed in the future but YMMV on how much of a difference that actually makes.
