Citi American Airlines 60,000 Miles Personal Offer (Get Matched To 75,000 Miles)

Update 02/14/18: Reposting as this link is still working and many data points of being successfully matched to 75,000 miles.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite MasterCard is offering 60,000 miles after $3,000 in spend within the first three months.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $95 is waived the first year
  • Contains one American Airlines bonus per 24 month language

Our Verdict

Most people will not be eligible due to the following language:

  • American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi® / AAdvantage® card (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.

This rule is discussed in more depth here. Last time this bonus was offered people were successful in getting matched to 75,000 miles as well (people are being succesfully matched to this offer this time around as well). Before applying or asking basic questions in the comments make sure you read these things everybody should know about Citi cards here. American Airline miles have been seen as less valuable recently due to the fact that there hasn’t been much sAAver space recently, apparently American Airlines plan to make positive changes on this front but as we all know actions speak louder than words.

As matching to 75,000 does work I’ll be adding this offer to our best credit card bonus page. They also offer 60,000 miles on the business version of this card as well.

I’ve had the Citi AA Plat since 2011. It was a Visa at first and converted to MC less than 24 months ago, I think. I’ve neither opened nor closed any other AA card at all. Will I be eligible for this bonus? It’s been much less ne’er than 2 years since I opened my AA card, but the PC from Visa to MC resulted in a new number.

You will be eligible. I did it and it worked

What’s the process for calling to get a match? I tried calling the customer service number on the back of the card and requesting a match to a “75k offer that I’d seen when I logged in online that was better than the 50k offer I signed up for,” and the customer service rep asked for the promotion number! I said I didn’t see any promotional number, and he kind of chuckled and said, “well I’ll submit the request and we’ll see what happens.” He said I would hear back in 5-7 business days.

Did I do something wrong?

The 75000 offer is for the Executive card that comes with a 450 dollar annual fee that is not waived the first year. If you are asking to be matched with that and you have the Platinum no wonder he laughed at you. You should have asked to be matched to the 65k offer for 4k spend in 4 months that I received for the Platinum.

Ok, but that’s not what the Doc suggests above in this post – he doesn’t even mention the Executive card.

Also, if I do call back for a 65k offer and am asked about a promotional number, where is that?

It’s a 60K offer, not 65K. I had just applied for the card at 50K — the card hasn’t arrived yet, and asked to be upgraded to the 60K offer. They asked for something like an invitation code, but I also didn’t have one. So they filed a “dispute” (their term) to see I can be eligible for the 60K offer.

It seems like there would be a better/softer way toward getting the extra 10K miles.

Citi called today, and not only was I approved for the 60K offer, they posted the 10K mile difference immediately to my account. Wow, that’s some service!

Does anyone know if “product change” is considered to be the same as closing a card?

I’ve made a product change from the citi AA personal card to another (non AA) citi card, and I’m trying to figure out if it restarts the 24 month clock

Anyway to rush ship the approved card?
I setup a login after approve, but still cannot login.

any idea about this (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card)

if I apply a biz card recently, can I get this card?

Can this be opened if I am a Prestige card holder? How about my wife who is an authorized user of the prestige card?

Has anyone successfully received the 75k points? If so, how?

Yes, I got the 75k match on the personal and business before even using either card. This was done through secure message. These were my first two Citi cards.

I just requested the 75k via instant message and was declined for the AAdvantage Platinum Select personal card through Citi

just signed up using your link! thanks

heads up he doesn’t use affiliate links

Could someone please advice:

3/10/15: I opened a personal AAdvantage Platinum
7/4/16: I converted AAdvantage Platinum to AAdvantage Bronze
12/30/17: I converted AAdvantage Bronze to Double Cash

Will the 24-month rule apply to me if I apply for the AAdvantage Platinum now?

p.s. Did I make a mistake converting from AAdvantage Bronze to Double Cash on 12/30/17? If so, I may still be able to cancel the conversion…(?)

DP: I got my Citi AA Biz card matched to 75k as well. Through SM.

is there any screenshot or anything needs to be provided? or just asking to match is good enough?

I am still confusing if matched to 75,000 offer the product will change from Platinum to Execute or not?

Folks, I need some advice on this.

I’ve have this exact card open for 3 years.
The $95 AF just posted 3 days ago and I’d already decided to downgrade to the no AF Bronze card.

Given that this 75K is one of the best offers for this card, I want to pull the trigger before it expires.

1. what are my chances for getting approved if I just downgrade to bronze on the existing one?

2. How much time should I wait after the conversion to Bronze?

NOTE: I have a pretty high credit score so I probably won’t get denied because of that.

Thanks in advance!

You should be able to apply for this one while keeping your existing card open. The 24-month clock resets when you open, close, or sometimes product change a card in the same family (if the new card number changes from the old one) so if I were you I’d apply for the new card now, then close the old one as soon as you receive the new one.

I just applied for this today and got a “application pending approval” message. Should I wait for them to review and get back to me in 7-10 days (as stated in the boiler plate message)? Any suggestions on what I should say is the reason I want a second card when I already have one with the same features?

Can you be more specific? People can get matched for 75k for Cita AA Personal Platinum card? How?

Just asked for 75k, matched without any hesitation. WHOA!!

Wow! Thank you Doc! One Secure Message and they gave me 10,000 miles for free, no need to reach a new spend!

Here is some additional info to help others. Basically answers to questions i had that i couldn’t find an answer to.

So if you are wondering the “75,000 offer” is 75,000 miles for $7500 spend. Depending on what offer you currently have, it may or may not sound that lucrative to “upgrade” your offer to the higher offer, because the increased spend is enormous. I ultimately decided to do it. In the end, i did not have to spend the extra (in my case $3500) money to receive the extra miles. they just added them to my account.

Now I did secure message, many are suggesting it is easy. I spent a good 5 – 10 minutes trying to figure out HOW to secure message. Citi doesn’t make it easy. As far as I can tell, you have to scroll to the bottom of the screen after logging in to your citi account, and choose “contact us”, then scroll down again to “secure message center”, and then, well, you got it from there.

I am planning to do this with the business card soon, and a no 24 month language gold card in the next month. Hopefully that lasts, that’s 225,000 miles, almost enough for roundtrip first apartments on Etihad.

Here is the sample message i sent…

Hope this helps someone.

“Good Morning, I signed up recently (about a month ago) for the AAdvantage Card, and I see there is an offer for 75,000 miles now available. Can you please match me to the 75,000 miles sign up bonus?

Thank you for your time and assistance.
Kind Regards,
Brian C”

I am going to get my personal AAdavantage with 60K intro miles any day now and I am going to ask again. I will keep you informed and post soon on that result.

Thank u DOC!!

+1 also via SM. Thank you, Doc!

Do you match right after approval? Can they see the card right away?
