Citi American Airlines 70,000 Miles Business Offer & Why You Shouldn’t Get It

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Citibusiness® / Aadvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® is offering 70,000 miles after $4,000 in spend within the first three months.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $95 is waived the first year
  • Contains one American Airlines business bonus per 24 month language

Our Verdict

Standard offer is 50,000 miles, but 60,000 miles is normally available. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend doing this 70,000 mile offer. That’s because currently anybody can sign up for the 60,000 miles offer and then ask for a match to 75,000 miles. I haven’t heard of anybody been denied this match and who knows if they will match from 70,000 miles to 75,000 miles. In addition this 70,000 mile offer requires $4,000 in spend vs only $3,000 with the other offer. I guess this 70,000 mile offer could be useful if you/your partner don’t like to call in and ask for a match, but for an extra 5,000 miles it’s worth it. You can also just secured message in.

This offer contains the following language:

  • This card is not available if the business already has a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select®World Mastercard® card. Bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card opened or closed in the past 24 months.

More details on that here. If you have any questions about this card or Citi cards in general, please read this post first as it most likely answers them. I won’t be adding this to the best credit card bonuses page due to the fact that the 75,000 mile match bonus is available on the 60,000 mile offer.

I got the 60,000 offer. Used secured messaging from inside the citi desktop web (wont work on mobile). Simply asked to be matched to 75,000. They gave it to me, without increase in min spending.

“Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry.

We have added 15,000 miles to your account to match the offer that you
received. This adjustment will be included in the total monthly mileage
on your statement within 2 billing periods.”

Done.

Is there a working link to the 60,000 offer? I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

FYI, they matched this 70k offer to 75k via secure message just after I received the card. As before, the extra 5k was offered upfront and the 70k requirements remain the same.

Same thing for me. Sent the SM yesterday, got my positive answer today. Be the data point you want to see, right?

I canceled my AA biz card in Dec 2017. I just received a mailer offering me the same card, 65K for $4K spend within 4 months, no 24-month language. Should I try to SM to get upgraded to 75K, or should i stay quiet because this offer doesn’t have the 24-month language?

Is bank account funding not working for Citi min. spend anymore? I put $3k on via bank funding and no bonus after the first statement closed.

I did, that’s when they told me no bonus for me, I didn’t hit minimum spend since financial institutions do not count.

Hmmm………That’s a new low for Citi.
Ask them nicely via SM where it is written under T&C of the bonus.
Failing which file a complaint to CFPB before Mulvaney makes it disappears.

I have an existing Citi Business using an EIN. Will I get the bonus if I apply now using my SS#?

Was thinking of applying for this. I have no Mastercard for Business and it would be nice to have one to compliment Visa and AMEX.

Rumor has it Citi only allows 1 Business card per EIN? Already have Citi Costco Business Card. Didn’t know if it matters Citi Costco Business card is a Visa and this AA card is a Mastercard.

I’m assuming this would be no go and a wasted hard pull if I applied, but would welcome any thoughts. Thanks.
