As some of you have already noticed, there are currently some issues with the commenting platform on this site. While we try to rectify these issues some features might not be available (e.g e-mail alerts, profiles, tagging etc). This post will be hidden once I think the issues have been fully resolved, thank you for understanding.
I determined that the amount of upvotes disappears from the profile of a “user account” shortly after the user reaches 2K comments.
I doubt that this is intentional so it must be another “bug” like what I told you about in this comment: #1787263 .
Anyway, this “bug” is even less important to resolve than the “New Reply” one that I told you about in the linked comment but I figured that I would let you know since you did create this “Comment Issues” post after all. 😉
Nothing we can do, it’s on the plugin developers unfortunately

Seems I’m getting email notifications 12+ hours after they’re posted, usually coming in as a flood in the evening/night time.
Are notifications in real time or batched for later?
Some went to moderation. You get the email notifications once they are cleared and released.
I’m not referring to comments *I* make. These are other folks replies. That many going to moderation?
Yes,
William Charles or
Chuck release the moderated comments all at 1 time. Sometimes they do it once a day. Sometimes it’s 2 or 3 times a day.
Did you recently subscribe to a lot of posts? If not, I’m not sure how you haven’t noticed this before. There are a lot of people that don’t enter an email address while making comments!
<Shrug> I’ve been on here for a few years now. Last few months not as active as before due to other obligations. I could of sworn the comments came through more regularly throughout the day.
Wish this place used a traditional login/forum type. Replies typically come through almost immediately.
It could be that they are getting through moderated comments less often than before so it appears to be a much larger flood of comments than a few years ago. It could also be that their readership has grown a lot since then. Only
William Charles or
Chuck could answer that.
If everyone used an email address when they commented, this wouldn’t be an issue as I receive new replies within seconds for comments that do not go to moderation.
If I was the owner of the site, I would require that everyone used an email address and no fake email addresses would be allowed!
“If I was the owner of the site, I would require that everyone used an email address and no fake email addresses would be allowed!”
A lot of great comments come from readers that don’t want to use an e-mail address. We would lose a lot of value by introducing this. Not everybody wants to interact with the site in the same way you do
It’s a good thing that I’m not the owner of the site then. 😀
That’s really odd bc I was confused by at least one comment that I read on the site, and then got an email about it later. But, I’ve also seen a comment on the actual site that was flagged as in moderation. I think that it’s just a bad plugin.
What you described in your 1st sentence happens from time time with comments that got posted to the site immediately and then went to moderation or Spam because someone edited it too many times and/or added link(s) to the original comment.
What you described in your 2nd sentence I have also seen once in a while. That I can’t explain!
Like others stated, it’s probably just because the comments were in moderation. You’ll only get the e-mail once it has been approved but it’ll still show the original comment posting time. Not really anything we can do about it
Fifth Third Bonus – WOW, FAST!
11/1/23 – Capital One Transfer (“Web Initiated Payment At Capital One Transfer”) – $510
11/2/23 – “Congratulations! You’ve Earned Your Cash Bonus Thank You For Banking With Fifth Third” – $350
It doesn’t get better than this! 🙂
Let me test this tagging function
William Charles
Chuck
Yes it’s an ongoing issue, we are still trying to fix.
I would argue that search functionality for comments is a key feature for many of us using this site. Please make sure this is maintained.
The UI doesn’t let me know whether or not I can apply to something OOS or if a bank or credit union is Chex inquiry sensitive. Totally fine with an updated UI as long as it does not interfere with key functions of the site!
If Will is thinking to get rid of the upvote feature, what’s going to stop them from getting rid of the search function and comment history too? Because the upvote feature is the simplest out of the three
Let’s start a poll and see if people want this to be fixed or not
Let’s start a poll to see how many people think you need to be fixed, Jack Jack Jack
Just isn’t the same when you can’t mention Jack Jack Jack.
I’d like to know how people get negative upvotes when the only thing I’ve ever been able to do for years is upvote a comment.
Don’t be a muggle!
Wow, those were the days when downvotes were allowed!
I like the simplicity of this website. That is all.
So you’re encouraging DoC not to fix this. You wanna make all of us divided
I suppose in this case the if it ain’t broke don’t fix it adage doesn’t quite work eh?
Tagging is also not working. Reader’s comment history disappeared
