The Fine Print

  • Tickets must be purchased no later than 11:59pm ET September 14, 2017 at delta.com
  • Pricing not available:
    • Alaska to the contiguous 48 United States: March 4 – 12, 2018
    • Contiguous 48 United States to Alaska: March 14 – 19, 2018

Our Verdict

I think it’s disingenuous that Delta doesn’t publish an award chart anymore and uses ‘dynamic pricing’ but still claim to have award sales like this. I think Alaska usually prices starting at 25,000 miles, not sure how much Hawaii is supposed to price at but I assume 40,000 miles.

35K from JFK with delta is plus a layover stop
might be better off transfering Amex miles to hawaiian for non-stop
(i will rather fly 12 hours non stop then 5 hours with a stop!)

Can award tickets be cancelled without penalty up to 72 hours before the flight?

Just booked my flight to fairbanks. You cannot cancel it, but can make a change 72 hrs prior to departure.

Normal Hawaii coach on Delta is 45K from US round trip. Lots of availability now from NYC area at 35K RT.

I’m based in the SF Bay Area, and all three airports have a flight to HNL (the cheapest is even Delta from SFO) in this timeframe for $397, making this deal a ~1.10 cent per mile deal… Considering you’d earn at least 5 miles if paid in cash, the value is down to 1.05. Plus 3xUR/3-5x MR/3xTYP if paying cash.. yeah, this isn’t for people from here.

I guess it’s worthwhile for people further from Hawaii.

I believe the whole point of accumulating points is to use them instead of cash. So this sale is a good proposition for using the Delta points before another devaluation converts Skypesos to Sky Zimbabwe Dollars.

Well, sure. This is also a reality check if it’s even worth accumulating them any more.

I’m seeing lots of availability from southern California to Alaska for 19,000 miles, starting in October.

There’s actually lots of availability. Wow at least for SFO to KOA

Alaska prices at 35K normally for saver award, so this is a good deal if you can find since you can build in two stop overs into your itinerary with Alaska.

How do you build in stopovers with Delta? I tried multi city on their site and it drove up the cost significantly.

Also, is this really a deal for HI? You can use other programs for as little as 25k, even from the East Coast.

Availability is incredibly sparse, at least from where I live. Not even possible to get a trip for that amount.
