HolidayCheck.Com Does Require Hotel Stay Confirmation

A few days ago we posted about HolidayCheck.com, which is a site similar to tripadvisor where users can post reviews on hotels and attractions. One thing that stands out is that they offer airline miles in exchange for hotel reviews (150-300 miles per review).

One thing I was worried about was that HolidayCheck reserves the right to ask for proof that you stayed at the hotel you reviewed to prevent fraud. I decided to submit one review to see what would happen, today I received the following e-mail.

holidaycheck

Acceptable proof:

  • Receipt
  • E-mail confirmation
  • Payment voucher

Sending in a receipt is a real hassle, because it requires me to take a photo of it or scan it in and then e-mail them back. E-mail confirmation isn’t that much of a hassle, because it’s not something I can easily loose.

I generally take photos of all my receipts as they are easier to manage come tax time, but I am probably the exception to the rule. For some people, this is going to be too much effort and they’ll pass up the miles bonus – but on the flip side it does mean that the reviews of HolidayCheck are people that have actually stayed there. The next few hotels I stay at, I’m going to compare my experiences to those on HolidayCheck and see how accurate it is compared to places like tripadvisor.
