[Expired] Ebates: 15% Cash Back At Select Stores, One Week Birthday Sale [Added Staples for Today]

This deal has expired, view more deals here.

Update 5/9/18: They’ve added Staples to be eligible for this 15% offer for one day only – May 9th. That’s an excellent portal rate for a popular store. (HT: FM)

The Offer

Direct link to offer (our referral link)

  • Ebates is offering 15% cash back at 400+ stores for their birthday week

Our Verdict

Whenever these deals come along it’s always a good idea to compare to other portals to ensure you’re getting a good deal, I use cashbackmonitor to do so. Some of these rates are much higher than competitors, others are so/so.

If you don’t already have an Ebates account then you can use our referral link here. You’ll get $10 after spending $50+ and we get $25. I wish there was some way to pass that $25 onto readers but Ebates has been unresponsive about a doc specific deal. In fact my account is actually locked at the moment and Ebates won’t respond to queries to unlock it. They finally unlocked it.

Ebates is simply the best Cashback website. I stopped using TCB because it does not track 88% of the time and if it does, it never ends up crediting. Ebates posts 90% of the time and if not customer service credits me with no hassle!!

Ebates has been so-so for me – back when they were running FatWallet’s cash back I would have to track purchases because so many would fail to show up. Since FW went away my preferred site is MrRebates – no minimum or special timing to withdraw, very fast payment, so far 100% accurate tracking. They aren’t always the highest %Cash back, but if they are within a percent I’ll use them every time.

I stopped using eBates because they are not ethical. I once bought about 1k stuff then immediately receive ebates email. About 1 week later the pending was gone. The customer service rep keep telling me that the store refuse to issue money back and there’s nothing they can do. I swear I did not use any coupons at all. They eventually stopped the email communication. I cashed out then said bye to them.

I’ve had problems with all of the cashback portals in one form or another. Hotel cashbacks never worked for me on any of the portals, even if they were prepaid.

Ignoring that, the best cashback portal has been ebates in spite of their problems because they do the cashbacks like clockwork, unlike TCB, which kept me guessing when i used them. I tried using givingassistant too, and they couldn’t get one of the merchants, Adorama, to pay out.

As I understand it, the cashback portals are sort of at the mercy of the stores, but if they can’t get them to payout especially when it’s tracked (and shows as such), then these merchants should be kicked out or have some other punitive measure.

I typically use eBates since it’s always worked for me. I had issues from TCB from the start and that almost soured me away from cashback sites. There are so many cashback sites out there now, how do people choose one over the other without spreading the purchases too thin.

What does spreading thin matter if you’re always choosing the highest rate?

Usually there is a minimum to withdraw and it just becomes an operational hassle – I don’t want to manage 10 accounts so that I could “make/save” $4

I love Cashbackmonitor and Giftcardwiki. Those are my go to’s when I’m shopping online. I tend to use TopCashBack most often.

I’m NEVER going to use Ebates since they killed off Fatwallet.
I hope DoC stays away from Ebates since they are in the business of buying & then killing deal sites. Cashback is just a front.

Marco, I enjoy your contributions around here. Especially your comments on the Alliant CU SSL trick. I disagree however that you should stay away from ebates. They have the best tracking hands down. No other websites do it as quick and also have a 100% track rate.

TCB is a PITA and has like a 25% track rate and takes forever.
airline / hotel / CC / SB portals are slower and usually pretty good

I made Ebates my go-to even if its less than other cashback portals because the CS and track rate are A+. I would choose airline / hotel / CC / SB portals if they are higher however.

Never have had a problem with top cash back. I have had problems with ebates. Usually related to their credit card not tying to a purchase automatically but a quick message and its fixed. (bad choice in getting that card)

I’ve had tons of issues with Topcashback. The first issue being they are abysmal at communication. I’ve had at least three occasions where tracked purchases never got paid out. After weeks of emails I finally gave up on those and the site in general.

what do they get out of killing deal sites?
plus the biggest deal site is slick deals, I don’t think they are for sale… and even if they were, something new would pop up to replace them.

I still use Ebates, but they do have some issues. On Cyber Mondays, they usually offer double cash back and a special deal on TMobile. Twice, I had valid TMobile purchases, tracking records, and no cash back. Ebates said that Tmobile didn’t pay them, so I was out of luck. They continue to offer the deal every year.
