Our Verdict

It’s the end of the quarter so not surprised to see eBay offering this deal again. Max this out with a $667 purchase. Just keep in mind some sellers will raise their prices when the sale comes – always check that you’re getting a good price. Most don’t do this when it’s a sitewide sale as it’s eBay who is paying for the promotion.  Remember to use a shopping portal for your eBay purchases. Alternatively use our affiliate link. Looks like card linked program is also offering 100 points per dollar (worth $0.1 towards gift cards). Let us know any good deals you see and we’ll add a link. Some suggestions:

My Drop points posted today however, they only gave me 20 points per dollar instead of the 100 points per dollar. Anyone else experience the same?

Was a good haul – with 15% + 1% ebay Bucks, and a further 5% TYP on the rest due to my offer on Citi card. Now fingers crossed the $30 Drop will work – they have been bad with tracking in the past.

Damn, should have remembered that offer and used my Dividend card for an extra 5%. *sigh* Live and learn.

Does this work with offers, and if so, can that purchase be combined with purchases from other sellers?

I’m not familiar with ebay so the question i have may sound stupid to many of you. How does ebay coupon work? Do i pay the seller the listing price then ebay give me the rebate for the discount or ebay force the seller to sell at 15% discount? I’ve never used any coupons on ebay before because i don’t understand how it works (since they all seem to be individual sellers on ebay).

You pay seller the 85% price. eBay makes up the rest so seller still gets full asking price (before fees.)

There are two varieties of this promotion. One where only a list of specific sellers participate – those usually jack up their prices to accommodate, but might be eating the 10% or 15% ‘discount’ if they didn’t raise their prices that much. And the other type like today, this sitewide discount where it applies to any seller – those definitely have Ebay eating the difference instead of the seller, so most sellers don’t raise their prices.

Is it possible to tell if the coupon will be applicable before you commit to buying something, like a checkout page that shows the final amount?

Wondering if you could buy some bullion with this since it doesn’t specifically seem to exclude it… but I’m skeptical that they would allow it.

No go on Bullion…it’s a subcategory of Coins & Paper Money…
For instance:
“Coins & Paper Money>Bullion>Silver>Bars & Rounds”

Drop has an ebay portal with 100 points per dollar right now.

That’s ~10% cashback since drop points are valued at 1000ppd.

Only catch is they’re only redeemable as gift cards.

Also they have far less exclusions than other portals. Most portals exclude electronics which is insane to me.

Doc should really add this to the post. If you stack this with the sitewide sale, you could effectively get 15% back from ebay + 8% back from drop (assuming you get a gift card and sell it on raise for 80% face value) + at least 1% back from your credit card for an aggregate 24% back.

You can push this even further by buying an ebay gift card in a grocery store that earns you cash back in that category, or just buy a $250 for $245 or $500 for $490 ebay gift card on retailmenot.

I wonder if there are any other ways you can stack this?

They won’t pay you for the portion you pay by gift card.

  LS

In the past what i usually do is apply the promo code first, then the gift card second.

By doing this i have been able to use the 15% code and gift cards at the same time in every purchase.

LS

I meant shopping potals won’t pay your for cash back on the gift card part, so I don’t see how you could stack drop with gift card by “pushing even further”.

Ann
Ann (@guest_648436)

I think LS was saying that Drop won’t credit you with 10% back on the portion of your Ebay transaction that is paid with Ebay gift cards, nothing to do with the 15%. I haven’t used Drop myself; I see Beefer seems to think it will work with Ebay purchases paid with gift cards too, but I wanted to clarify anyway.

Dylan
Dylan (@guest_648451)

In that case, pay the first $300 with a credit card and the rest with a gift card. If you read the T&C for drops offer, you are limited to 30,000 points per transaction so even if its a $500 transaction you arent going to get anything from drop for the last $200.

I thought Drop only tracks purchases made with a credit card? If so, then unfortunately stacking this with Ebay gift cards is unfortunately out.

They exclude categories like electronics because eBay pays their affiliates a much lower commission rate on those categories.

Beefer

Maximum commission is 70% of the ebay fee and is only on car parts & fashion.

Electronics earn 50%.
