You can pay with a credit card through PayPal, just not directly on eBay for these.
You are correct. For some reason it rushed through and automatically applied my preferred payment of a bank. I should have gone in and changed it, but 20% discount is good enough for me, the additional 1.5-2% from a credit card is not a huge loss.
