eBay Holiday Offer: Fee-Free Selling via eBay Valet, 12/26-12/27

eBay Valet

Launched in the summer of 2014, eBay has a service called eBay Valet which will sell your stuff on eBay and spare you the troubles of listing. Instead of selling the item yourself, just print off a prepaid label and send it into eBay; they’ll worry about listing, selling, and shipping the item to the buyer.

The standard cost for the service is as follows:

  • Sale price of less than $50 – 40% fee
  • Sale price of $50 to $200 – 30%
  • Sale price of more than $200 – 20%

The Offer

As a holiday promotion, eBay is offering to sell your items without taking a commission fee. This offer is only valid if you input the order and print out your shipping label on December 26th or 27th. You’ll have until January 3rd to ship the items.

What’s especially surprising about this offer is that not only will you save the added Valet fees that are usually assessed, but there’s apparently no fees at all. Typically, eBay sellers pay up to 10% to eBay and another 2.9% to Paypal; under this promo, there won’t be any fees at all.

Final Thoughts

For people like me who aren’t into reselling merchandise, the idea of not having to deal with buyers and not having to worry about shipping out on time is enticing.

Hard to know that you’ll get top dollar when delegating the task of selling to the Valet and a control freak would not be able to deal with it. Without the added fees, I’d be willing to take the risk.

It’s unclear if anything is stopping a big eBay seller from shipping off huge quantities of goods and saving the sellers fee, but most real sellers won’t be interested in giving up control over their business in that way.
