Update 8/10/25: per Awardwallet, the Hawaiian Card will remain open to new applicants for the foreseeable future.
Original post 7/29/25:
Hawaiian has announced that on 10/1/25 existing Barclays Hawaiian cardholders will continue without interruption. It’s unclear if the card will still be available for sign ups or not.

this is good news. i was getting frustrated and tired of all my barc cards going to various banks all the time and fucking up my app strategy cuz the move adds new CC w/ bank + transition mess + increase CL + messes w/ CR.
no clue wat barc is doing. they no longer have a barc brand CC and only offer co-brand like other low tier banks. they already lost NFL apple uber choice AA. surprised they are keeping HA.
but i assume this will go same as citi sharing AA. slow burn then bofa will take all HA during next renewal. pretty sure all parties bofa barc AS/HA agreed to let things stand vs costly changes after tons of meetings. hence this late update.
also, bofa doesnt really acquire huge portfolios and have some odd co-brands. but i kinda do wanna see bofa and startbucks launch a card since they are partners. SB already had Bank One and chase so maybe nobody wants a SB card.
I want to see a new Barclays brand card too. It’s been a long time since Barclaycard was discontinued in the US.
I also think Hawaiian card is going to BoA.
yea. but i think barc learned their lesson after their 1st disaster w/ arrival premier. trying to keep up w/ chase CSR launch 2016. no clue how jetblue premier is holding up. and banks like USB is a shit show.
u can tell this new CSR round only has few banks willing to compete. amex refresh. citi elite. bofa AS. cap1 is quiet. prob cuz WM circus and discover. and WF fucked by BILT. nobody else left. no more random FNBO TravElite clowns.
but ya. bofa will def take over HA. will be a few years.
With the merged loyalty program, one would assume the application will be updated to reflect one’s Alaska membership number. It still asks for one’s Hawaiian membership number.
Unsure where to post this but HA card is offering double miles 8/1 to 11/30 up to 1250 per month.
Targeted?
if pple are super invested in AS/HA, they should keep eye on beatofhawaii blog. its very good. but its not CC shit. its anything HI.

more importantly, nothing certain for barclays CC which means u still have time to make moves. we are really in an unprecedented period with so much M&A activity. if bofa willing to pay, barc will transition over. otherwise, will be PC. but i suspect a similar model to citi AA and shared distribution for now. but eventually barc cards will move to bofa.
I was hoping for a change like what happened with JetBlue or US Airways and the card changed to the new one (weirdly both involved Barclays) and had different benefits that I believe are still active today, but from Alaska. Also the Marriott card from spg (even though that is 1000% worse than the spg it replaced) (Still also feel like this is a worse merger overall than JetBlue and spirit especially for competition and future prices)
does anyone know how will AS/HA knows which accounts i have to merge correctly? Should I preemptively move HA miles into AS?
There is a link to merge them on the announcement or either website. If you link them early they will go into one account when the change happens. Only first week of October may be an issue for Hawaiian while they migrate systems I read
I tried that a few times starting with AS but it keeps saying my password for HA is wrong even though it’s untrue… lol
I can login into my HA just fine…
Does anyone know how will AS or HA knows which two accounts i have to be merged or should i preemptively transfer the miles over to AS just in case?
My annual fee is coming up soon – any reason to keep this? I assume no – 2x Alaska miles at grocery stores isn’t worth $99 to me, I don’t have any need to spend to status, and I’m considering the Alaska premium card when it comes out.
In my opinion this entire situation with uncertainty surrounding the future of Hawaiian cards means only one thing:
after having lost the AA account this year Barclays is very reluctant to lose yet another one (especially so since the Alaska-Hawaiian merger was beyond the Barclays control). Seems to me that the negotiations are still ongoing and Barclays and Alaska haven’t finalized the deal on the future of the Hawaiian cards yet.
That just says the card will remain branded as Hawaiian, nothing about the underlying Bank – which for most here is the key detail
Precisely what I was thinking – it’s just guaranteeing that the card won’t randomly stop working, but no promises that the card portfolio stays with Barclays.
Do you really like Barclays as an issuer?
