Our Verdict
Giving back is one of the most rewarding things in life. Chances are this site has helped you save some money and also helped you earned a little extra as well. I get a lot out satisfaction of helping readers in this way and some of my favorite comments to read are when readers are in a better place financially because of this site and because of this they have been able to help others. If you’re in a position to donate to help those less fortunate, or really any cause you feel strongly about then I recommend you do so. Better yet when you can combine it with things like this. I doubt the matching will last very long so probably best to get your donations in early if that bothers you.

In case anyone is looking for a great charity to support, here is my facebook donation page eligible for the match and fee-free #GivingTuesday promotion: https://www.facebook.com/donate/1995127584063782/
Even if you aren’t interested in donating, check it out. You’ll probably get a kick out of some of the photos of me and my friends that grew mustaches and dressed in 70s clothes for our Movember Foundation fundraiser. We’ve been doing it since 2012 (but I missed 2014 and 2016).
My apologies DoC if this isn’t allowed, feel free to remove the link if you need to.
This is pretty generous. On the other hand, it’s also .0023% of Bill Gates’ wealth. So for the average person earning 45K with 50K tucked away, it’s like giving $1.15.
I think we should celebrate any amount donated, also Bill Gates has made a pledge to donate the majority of his wealth and has gotten other ultra networth individuals to do the same.
Buyer beware? I’ve checked several non-profits’ FB pages. In some cases, when I click on the “Donate” button I’m taken to a Facebook community payment page that says “currently, all fees are waived” and some, when I click the “Donate” button I get a message that says I’m going to a page not operated by Facebook (Network for Good) and at the bottom there is a mention of fees. So I’m guessing one is the “correct” button type for the match and one is not? But how can I be sure? It actually looks like there might be non-profits that THINK they are participating in Giving Tuesday but maybe they aren’t if they didn’t update their donate buttons??
Personally, I’ve decided to pull back and not donate this way, since I’m unable to feel confident that there will be a match. I’ll just continue to donate my old-fashioned way (mail a check, 100% goes to the non-profit, no fees).
I wish I’d known this when I donated last week and Facebook took its 5% cut 🙂
I also donated via facebook because it seemed like a tax-deductible way of donating that (somewhat ironically, if true… can someone verify this?) didn’t require me giving my direct personal information (phone, address, email) to the charity, so we can all save ourselves the wasted trouble of further correspondences. I like the charity, I like what they do, I super support them, I share their links and causes, but please don’t call or waste natural resources sending me junkmail.
“so we can all save ourselves the wasted trouble of further correspondences.”
THIS. It’s why I loathe online donations these days. Nothing worse than watching that $20 you donated in good faith to say, save the whales, only to watch your donation be spent in unwanted mail for years on end.
Metrics most show this technique works enough or nonprofits and politicians wouldn’t do it though, I guess.
As a very small data point, it’s been about a week since I donated to a charity via Facebook and I have received no correspondence from the charity I donated to.
For tax purposes meanwhile, I received the receipt immediately after payment. From what I can understand of it, the 5% transaction fee is NOT tax-deductible. This won’t matter for the people donating on giving Tuesday, but good for future info.
Planning to participate by giving to Jill’s House, a respite center for disabled children in McLean, VA.
Would be nice if B&M matched 2xs as much! 😉
Actually this is a great offer for bill and Melinda. They donate to their foundation every year. Now they can earn billions in points itself by donating through this on their unlimited credit line credit card. Win win for mark..priscilla bill and Melinda

Your comment says way more about YOU than it does anybody else… and I believe the common phrase is… haters gonna hate! Don’t bother responding…I’m going to be too busy figuring out how much I can afford to give. One more thing… Love in Christ.
Lemme grab some popcorn while I delve into the philosophy in this post
